With your support, I continue to build the necessary elements for 2ndish The Circularity Club and the Upcycling Factory!
This project is about empowering consumers of fashion and help us find our way to a circular and sustainable fashion industry. As consumers, we have the power to act. We can reduce the industry’s carbon footprint, stop the insane amount of waste, water pollution, and irreversible environmental damage by reducing our consumption, by reusing what we have and by properly dispose of old textiles to minimize waste. To achieve this, we need to work together and implement new structure within the community to transition to a circular economy.
My goal with this project is to have a Circularity Club and an Upcycling Factory that work hand in hand to recirculate clothes, transform and reuse textiles within the community. The people we would like to engage with are consumers of fashion; families, students, young adults and people of all ages interested in changing their behaviors as consumers to support the creation of a sustainable fashion industry within a circular economy. Our members care sufficiently about climate change issues to question their behavior as consumers, are unhappy with the footprint of the fashion industry, enjoy fashion and design products and wish to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
Your financial support helps me continue the development of 2ndish. To get out of the "Highway to climate hell" (like UN Secretary General António Guterres said at COP27) we need to change the way we consume and produce. This change needs to come now, and I am offering to build a supportive structure to do just that: a new way to consume fashion and dispose of old clothes: no to fast fashion, no to export and dumping in landfills. With your help we can move forward. Support my project and be part of the green transition!
I am renting a small space in Cologne-Ehrenfeld where clothes are sorted and made available for members (clothing swap collection). This is the first clothing swap space for 2ndish members. I would like financial support to work on building my online presence, which consists of a website explaining the structure and functioning of 2ndish, an Instagram storyboard, and promotional videos. In a second phase (2023), I will invest in the first Upcycling Factory in Cologne to increase my upcycling capacity.
My name is Marie-Lune Simard and I am the founder of 2ndish. The fashion industry is fueled by our collective desire to dress well and feel good about how we look. The need for self expression through fashion is valid but, unfortunately, the goodwill of consumers is vulnerable to the manipulative strategies of fast fashion brands. I believe we don’t have to destroy our planet in order to dress well. I have a background in Biology and, although it looks like two different topics – fashion and nature have a lot more to do with another than one can imagine. Our clothes are made with natural resources and, in fact, the fashion industry is 4th in terms of pressure on our planet’s natural resources and the 2nd most polluting industry in the world. My love for nature and desire to understand and solve problems have led me to create 2ndish. My vision: build a space for the community to come together and share ideas as well as used clothing. Keep the textiles local and in circulation to reduce waste, emissions, and the demand for new materials. Help accelerate much-needed changes in the fashion industry.
The consumer is the last point of contact from millions of tonnes of processed raw material each year. The subscription-based concept behind 2ndish is designed to promote community action, empowering members to consume more sustainably and creating a public forum for sharing ideas and innovation around circularity. Our philosophy is in line with the united nation’s SDG's #12.
We didn't make it far with Startnext but hopefully we can keep growing and find financial support elsewhere. With what we were able to gather here we will buy some equipment for the upcycling factory and start transforming our clothes.
Liebe Leute,
Vielen Dank
Marie-Lune
