The first comprehensive research on the contributions of Greek architects to the polykatoikia building type that made Athens a modern metropolis. An exploration of the architectural evolution of the typical Athenian residential model from the Modern Movement designs of the 1930s through the experiments of the early post-war period to the iconic polykatoikias of the 1960s, based on a selection of 76 innovative apartment buildings.
