John Dowland, der Meister des melancholischen Lautenlieds, Englands „erster Songwriter“ (Sting), der ewig unzufriedene Wanderer, mehr unterwegs als zu Hause. CarlSong nähern sich Dowland von der jazzigen Seite, die Songs werden zerlegt und neu zusammengesetzt, werden Jazz, werden Blues, werden freie Improvisationen im Shakespeare-Englisch. Die Gambe wird zum Bass, zum Cello, zur Rhythmusgitarre, die Laute jazzt und umgarnt Hanna Carlsons Stimme, welche die Songs zu ihren eigenen werden lässt!
