Your donation will support us in the first phase of the legislative referendum, to draft the socialization law, for campaign costs and fixed costs (for more details see "Project Details").
With our referendum, we are putting a specific law to the vote that will socialise the housing stocks of profit-oriented real estate companies with more than 3,000 flats in Berlin. The flats are to be transferred to an institution under public law and democratically administered. Socialisation is the best way to solve the rent crisis in Berlin - so now we will enforce socialisation ourselves.
We want to permanently bring back affordable rents in Berlin. In socialised housing, rents would no longer serve to finance the profits of profit-hungry real estate corporations. Instead, only the costs actually incurred would have to be paid. If we are successful, rents for hundreds of thousands of flats in Berlin would no longer rise. This would also take enormous pressure off the Berlin rental market, which would ultimately benefit all tenants. People would no longer have to live in constant fear of displacement.
The expert commission appointed by the former senate (Berlin government) confirmed the legal and financial feasibility of socialisation. With a large majority (59.1%), Berlin voted in favour of socialisation on 26 September 2021. But the government coalition of CDU and SPD is only pursuing delaying tactics. It wants to write a so-called "framework law" which does not implement the referendum from 2021, but simply delays it further. We do not agree with this procedure! We are writing our own law. For this we need your support. There is no right to profit, but there is a right to housing.
We will use the money to finance the first phase of the new referendum: Above all we need money to draft Germany's first socialisation law. For this we are working with scientists and experts in the field, especially with a law firm specializing in constitutional law. In addition to the draft law, we have costs for posters, flyers, stickers, videos, advertising, social media, room rent for events, our office and our website.
The initiative "Deutsche Wohnen & Co. Enteignen" (Expropriate Deutsche Wohnen & Co.) is supported by many committed individuals, people from tenants' initiatives and urban policy groups. Almost 2,000 Berliners are now active in our 16 neighbourhood teams. Everyone can join and is welcome to push for the socialisation of the large real estate companies. You too can become part of the movement: https://www.dwenteignen.de/mitmachen/en/
Deutsche Wohnen & Co Enteignen!
With our campaign goal, the socialization of large real estate corporations in Berlin, we directly contribute to the sub-target "more affordable housing" in SDG 11.
