Crowdfunding since 2010

Bee-keeping instead of goldmining - A sustainable solution for our partner community in Uganda! BEE PART OF THE HIVE!

With your help, we want to create a long-term income alternative in a gold mining community in Uganda. The people of the community themselves came up with the idea of what could be an alternative to mining: they want to make honey. Now, the financing phase of this ambitious project begins. BEE PART OF THE HIVE! Because a bee-hive is actually quite similar to Crowdfunding: like a hive is stronger than a single bee by itself, we can also achieve much more together!

What is this project all about?

Beekeeping as a sustainable business alternative to gold mining - that is what we set out to achieve together with our partner community in Uganda.

Why, you ask? The mining of earth metals poses a lot of risks. The miners have to work with mercury and cyanide on a daily basis, which are very harmful to the human body and the environment. It is normal for families in Uganda, to depend completely on mining as their only source of income. Women and even small children have to work in the mines to earn some little money for their family. But the work is dangerous, exhausting, and badly paid. Earthbeat Foundation wants to develop long-term alternatives to gold mining that are more sustainable and fair and promote a fair change in the gold business. Together with the miners, we developed the concept for HEARTBEAT HONEY: through professional trainings about beekeeping and honey, the “liquid gold”, we help the people of Busia to take the first step towards an independence from gold.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

Everyone who believes that in our globalized world, it is possible and necessary to work together for the well-being of everyone. Everyone who is aware of their green and social footprint. We all are using gold every day: It is part of our mobile phones and computers. Taking responsibility is easy. And with our beautiful perks, it becomes even more easy.

Why would you support this project?

Your donation goes directly to the support of the people in Busia, Uganda. With your donation, you are helping them in a very specific way. During our campaign, we will also give you an insight on the topic of gold mining and possible alternatives for it.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

We enable about 80 miners in Uganda to become bee-keepers through professional trainings from a local apiary-organisation. They can then finance the equipment for their beehives with micro loans. We will also go back to Uganda to support them building up their own business.

Who are the people behind the project?

Heartbeat Uganda is a project of Earthbeat Foundation, which promotes a long-term change towards a fair and sustainable gold business. But we also want to help people now! That’s why, we develop projects that improve the security and the rights of gold miners or create income generating alternatives to gold mining. The goal is to help the miners become self-sufficient and make an income without gold mining. Take a look at our website about what we already achieved: www.earthbeatfoundation.org/succes-stories/
One example for our work with gold miners is our “goat project”:
