What is this project all about?

Contemporary ice skating is a form of movement and dance that brings authentic and artistic expression to ice skating. It combines the techniques of classical figure skating with contemporary dance. The result is a unique language of movement. Internationally, we co-founded the Contemporary Skating Alliance - locally the IceLab Leipzig.

Since 2023, we finally have a permanent rehearsal location - a home base - the IceLab Studio.

The second floor at Schönauer Straße 240 in Leipzig Grünau is set to become more and more of a realm for dance, creatives and contemporary ice skating. There are three rooms: a dance studio, a co-working area for creatives and the ice studio. This rehearsal stage is made of Like-Ice synthetic ice. This is the bridge between the dance studio and real ice, which also provides a safe space. Here we can research, train and conceptualize without public traffic. In summer and winter, day and night. Never before has it been possible to dance on skids in such pleasant temperatures and with such comfort - and only three meters above the food source and 200m from the green forest, at the same time in the middle of the city.

We bring those interested in culture to a district that still has far too little culture to call its own. It is looking for its own voice in the hustle and bustle of the big city. We mingle with the choir, want to be a meeting place and a point of contact.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

We are the hub for contemporary ice skaters and dancers in Germany. We see ourselves as a role model in terms of sustainability - and strive for our own independent sustainability in the sense of a long-term facility. At the same time, our co-working area and dance studio offer space for plenty of creative minds. In order to finally set up our studio and make it available to people in the neighborhood, in Leipzig and beyond (even internationally!) in the long term, we need financial support for the upcoming investments.

Why would you support this project?

Because the IceLab Studio can not only offer contemporary skating a unique rehearsal and development venue, but also wants to be a meeting place for dancers, interdisciplinary dialogues, co-working for creatives and a neighbourhood meeting point! As a cultural and creative venue, this combination makes us unique in Europe.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

We use your money to finance, among other things

Level 1-6
- Curtains and suspension
- High-quality rental skates

Level 7-9
- Stage lights for rehearsals, open stages and summer ice discos!
- Cleaning machine

Who are the people behind the project?

Laura is a trained dance teacher and contemporary dancer and has been active in dance on skids since the end of 2022. In addition to her freelance work, she organizes and choreographs in the IceLab and leads the dance company.

Katja is a pioneer and ambassador of contemporary ice skating worldwide and founder of the Contemporary Skating Alliance Foundation. She runs the IceLab and is also a company member. In her sporting career, she was a master class skater for Germany in figure skating and German Junior Champion. Further training at the Leipzig Dance Theater and the Eschwege Institute and her work as an outdoor trainer give her the necessary skills and life hacks that a young company of this kind needs.

IceLab Leipzig was launched in 2020 a few days before the pandemic broke out with the support of Vivien Reichel and has been a meeting point for contemporary skaters from national and international regions ever since, with all the highs and challenges that have followed.

To ensure that the IceLab can remain like this, we need your support today.

Den Druck rausnehmen. Durchatmen. Den Dingen ihre Zeit geben. Unser Motto von 2023 schwingt noch mit uns mit - deswegen möchten wir auch unserem Crowdfunding noch ein wenig Luft geben.

Take the pressure off. Take a deep breath. Give things their time. Our motto from 2023 still resonates with us - that's why we want to give our crowdfunding a little more breathing space.
