We launched the crowdfunding campaign for the expansion of our workspace. Over the past 3 years we have transformed an old industrial factory into a site for creative craft and expression - with all our heart, energy and inspiration!
KAOS / „Kreative Arbeitsgemeinschaft Oberschöneweide“ stands for cooperative working space Oberschöneweide and is situated in an old 20th century red brick building on the banks of the River Spree, not far from central Berlin providing affordable artist studios and workshops. KAOS is a collaborative thinktank for young creatives that is conceived as a place to think, make, try, conceptualise, discuss and show. By now, the collective consists of fifty designers, artists and hand crafters with different specialities including; product, graphic and textile design, metalwork, masonry, carpentry, gold and blacksmithery, screen-printing, fine art, architecture, audio production, filmmaking, traditional and digital photography and alchemy.
Since we began in 2013, a lot has happened. Every wall, studio or working space has been meticulosly errected by the creatives working here. The collective has made every effort and exerted all its additive energies in order to create a comfortable organic progressive working biosphere that breeds creativity in all specifications of the thinkers working within. Despite our best efforts, we are slowly approaching our economic limitations.
In short: the expansion and building of an infrastructure for work, safety and order.
Important facilities and structural measures are required to ensure the further existence of KAOS.
Furthermore, it is our aim to design a working environment that is as versatile as possible.
The more options that workshops and spaces are able to provide, the more diverse the creative output will be!
We are also working on developing a cultural venue in order to create a platform for the artists who are working here thus supporting their professional careers as well as guaranteeing added value for both the local society and Berlin's creative industry.
We are hoping to get supported by people, companies and institutions that are culturally interested and who invest in cultural projects in order to strengthen Berlin's creative development and industry. Yet, of course, we are also looking for people who are generally enthusiastic for design, art and project spaces in Berlin as well as KAOS friends and supporters.
As we have such a broad variety of artists and designers who are working here, we are happy to present manifold goodies in our campaign.
With your support, we can continue with the construction and finishing off our working studios and event rooms. Thus, you extend and reinforce the creative zeitgeist that defines Berlin. Your support enables KAOS to continue making, creating, collaborating and applying art in the contemporary world. Furthermore, you guarantee a venue for culture, education and public events. So be part of the community.
The plan is to invest in insulation and a heating system for warm-working in winter; painting and sanding facilities with a filter system to ensure a healthy work environment; a variety of machines for precise and safe work; and the expansion of studios for work that requires concentration in a clean space.
If we will reach 38.000 we will be able to start with the constructions. If we would even reach 50.000 we could go one step further by creating jobs at our KAOS office, developing a cultural programme thus guaranteeing added value for the local society as well as creative industry.
Here is what we are aiming at:
• Heating and insulation (for warm feet in winter)
• a sanding and painting system with extraction hood (for a healthy air)
• updated machinery (for safe working)
• expansion of our existing artists' workshops and studios
• job creation and employment stabilization
• the capability of conversion of the public space for events and social functions.
