Crowdfunding since 2010

Lets grow some beer and cider! We use local and organic whenever possible. Inspired by historical methods we produce goods with a sense of place.

In 2017 we founded our brewery for native beers as a student project. Due to the healthy demand and positive feedbacks we are happy to grow this business. We will move the brewery to a farm near Münster, Germany. There we will grow our own barley and expand the old apple orchard. We will open the brewery for visits, workshops, tastings and farmyard sales. To become a sustainable business we have to do some investments. This is where you can become part of our growth story!

What is this project all about?

Right now we can only produce very small batches and the beer was sold within 3 days. We want to change this state with moving the brewery and increasing the capacity of our brewhouse and barrel program. In the same time we will work even harder to use more local products and support biodiversity. For example we will grow an ancient barley variety called „Kaisergerste“, grow more landrace hops and we will expand the existing apple orchard with very special varieties.

Besides the special ingredients, our yeast culture makes our beers and cidres so special. We don’t use a pure cultured yeast, instead we ferment our beers with different wild yeasts (wild Saccharomyces sp. and Brettanomyces sp.) and lactic acid bacteria. These yeast cultures inoculate the beer in the natural cooling process in our coolship or are on the skins of the fruits. Our beers and cidres ferment between 2 months and 1,5 years on the lees.

We will turn the 100 years old farmhouse into a brewery where people and our yeast cultures feel happy. Our goal is to revive the Münstersch Altbier, our local sour beer. More than 80 barrels will be filled with the Münstersch Altbier, where it can ferment and mature for a good year. We will open the brewery for workshops, tastings and farmyard sales. We like to get asked your questions and you can truly feel farmhouse brewing!

With your help we can pay off part of the necessary equipment. In return you will be part of one of the most ambitious brewery projects and you will receive a personal Thankyou! You don’t want to get your Thankyou via courier, instead come to brewery and pick it up in person? Sure, no problem. Because we are saving shipping costs, you will get a glass of beer on the house.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

Our goal is it to create a place that fits to our native beers and cidres. A place that makes it possible to satisfy local and international demand. A place where we can welcome you!

We employ traditional methods and revive our local beerculture. Especially Münstersch Altbier and gruitbeers. With every of our concotions you support local produce and biodiversity. We work together with farms and family businesses and care about a fair pay.

This project is for everybody who love good and true products!

Why would you support this project?

You support us, because....

  • you like to drink our beers and cidres
  • you think that local sourcing and biodiversity is important
  • you want to be actively involved in the revival of old beerstyles
  • you want a fair pay for farmers, employes and family businesses
  • you can visit our brewery!

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

With the crowdfunding we like to get a 15.000 EUR support. With this money we will make the following investments:

  • hot water appliance 3.000 EUR
  • 20 oak barrels 4.000 EUR
  • coolship 2-piece 5.000 EUR
  • cidre press and apple mill 3.000 EUR

By getting another 10.000 EUR we can buy a used filling machine, to produce much more efficiently.

In total we will invest 150.000 EUR in this project, to build a brewery that has a economical sustainable size and is perfectly integrated in the material cycles of the farm.

Who are the people behind the project?

Brauerei Kemker consists out of Jan Kemker, Marie-Therese Hahn aswell as many other helping hands.

Jan Kemker brewed his first beer in his parents cellar in 2008. With big passion for farming and food, he experimented in the garden and in the kettle. Since 2015 Jan is working in the craft beer field by working on events, in retail, in consulting or as a handyman in a craft brewery. In 2017 he had the possibility to rent a small kitchen where he produced his first commercial batches on a 300l system.

In the same year Marie-Therese Hahn joined the team. She has the necessary feel for communication. Marie takes brush and camera in the hand and creates the appearance of the brewery. Besides that Marie is also a bis support in legal questions. She is a charm on events and knows how to fascinate people for good products.
