What is this project all about?

We want our Aachen based studio "Kunststube" to be a home for art, craft and creativity and create a place for handmade unique pieces coming from a place of love and passion. The studio will also showcase our and other artists work.

"Kunststube" stands for real craftsmanship.
We are two professional artisans focused on making the crafts of "jewellery design" and "statement pottery" visible to everyone by opening a studio called "Kunststube". A studio inspired by lengthly processes that require patience, motivated hands and hearts for details. Our work philosophy goes against industrial mass-produced goods and the idea of always producing as cheaply and as much as possible. "Kunststube" is a place that is definitely missing in Aachen's city centre: a place where handmade one-of-a-kind items are created from polymerclay and clay - and anyone interested can come by and watch us in the process.

"Kunststube" is for you
Whether it's pottery breast cups and bowls with faces or earrings and necklaces made of polymerclay: we'll be happy to let you share in our handicraft work. You can watch us through the large shop window of the studio or book one of our workshops and make your own unique piece out of clay or polymerclay. You can leave everyday life behind and recharge your batteries with your own creativity.

"Kunststube" creates attention
Our studio is also meant to be an art spot for other artists. We want to show how diverse our region is. You can use our rooms to exhibit your own work, sell it and/or introduce it to interested people through workshops. Or you can simply enjoy the exchange with other creative minds.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

We are redesigning a former bakery in Aachen's city centre into a unique place: with "Kunststube" we want to create more transparency and cultural appreciation for arts and crafts in general and our labels Claj Design and ZQTL ceramics in particular.

We are looking for people like you who appreciate real handcraft and want to help provide it with a suitable studio for presentation and sales with "Kunststube". Committed people who want to support cultural events and their dissemination. Curious people who would like to learn more about the production of ceramics and jewellery or even try it out for themselves. Creative people who are looking for a platform for their ideas and works.

Why would you support this project?

We want to mix the creative worlds of ceramics and polymer clay, which many already know from Instagram reels and TikTok videos, into a real art space that anyone can visit. Through social media, we've been able to give our crafts and their traditions a wide platform. Now you can see our popular products being made - and buy them on the spot. At the same time, we are expanding the visibility of the creative scene in Aachen by offering various workshops in our "Kunststube". In addition, further cooperations with other artists are planned. By financially supporting the opening of our studio, you are also supporting the cultural upgrading of the area!

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

Funding goal 1
We have already found a great spot for our "Kunststube": a former bakery in Aachen's city center. Now we still need the right equipment. We need workstations, workshop space and a good exhibition area. The rooms of the current bakery are small so we want to include tailor-made solutions to make the best use of the available space. Funding goal 1 is therefore the financing of the facility, which we would like to build ourselves with the help of local craftsmen.

Funding goal 2

Our handcrafts should be visible to everyone while they are still being created. Thanks to large shop windows, you can watch from the outside how clay is modeled by hand and on the wheel. We need a camera and a screen so that you can also take a look at the creation of detailed pieces of jewellery. Funding target 2 is therefore to fund the technology to make the jewellery production visible in large format on the shop window.

(Stretch Goal) Funding goal 3
Both of us have been self-employed for a relatively short time and are still dependent on external service providers for the creation of our unique pieces. The equipment we need, such as a ceramic kiln or a professional polymer clay pasta machine from Lucy Clay, is very expensive. Funding goal 3 is therefore to finance the professional equipment such as tools and kiln that we currently lack. This will enable us to work more independently and to offer our workshops more flexibly and to more interested people.

Funding goal 1: 3900€
Funding goal 2: 5900€

Who are the people behind the project?

We are Julia and Ximena, two self-employed artisans from Aachen, who would like to combine their two labels - Claj Design and ZQTL ceramics - into one art studio. Because like so many things in life: It's more fun together!

Julia
Hey, I'm Julia. I come from Bonn, have roots in Siberia and have lived in Aachen for six years. As a trained painter and varnisher, I have always loved handicrafts and the act of creating something with my own hands. What started as a balance to my architecture studies is now my absolute passion. In 2021, I founded my small company called "Claj design". Since then, I have been lovingly handcrafting my unique pieces. I want to give every wearer of my jewellery that feeling of uniqueness, because every piece of jewellery I make is unique and there is no second one. Among other things, I would like to use the "Kunststube" to share my love of this craft with you in the form of courses.

Ximena
Hola, I am Ximena. Mexico is my birthplace, Aachen is my home - and ZQTL is where my heart is. In 2020, I founded my small business after discovering my love for clay out of a professional and personal crisis. From engineer to artisan, I have since been making my unique pieces 100% by hand, with passion and patience. My ceramics are inspired by the beauty of the female body. With my works I want to celebrate self-love. For me, working with clay is a kind of therapy and allows my creativity to grow. Since 2022 I have been giving pottery classes in my home studio in Aachen to show interested people how cool this ancient craft is. With "Kunststube" I would like to reach even more people and inspire them for ceramics.

If real craftsmanship and a growing art landscape are important to you too, support our project "Kunststube" now! Together we will create a lively place for creativity. Please share this link with your friends, acquaintances and families.
