The aim is to offer teenagers from a socially, financially and politically unprivileged environment the chance to get to know and play music.
Music is a way of expression and forming identity. Especially in an area as often struck by conflicts as Palestine those two basic needs are not satisfactory dealt with or easily pushed to the background. In the music workshops, teenagers trying to form and find their identity get an opportunity to measure their potential and express themselves through music.
1) music instead of violence. The refugee movements of the last years have shown that the world is connected and we cannot hide or build walls to handle problems. Above all the Arabic Middle East was hit by the recent crisis. To create stability and offer opportunities of expression through art in this area means to provide young people with a perspective and is therefore peace-work and prevention of future conflicts. Music connects people.
2) To help where it is needed. Music and individuality are common values for us. Let's bring them to places where they aren't part of daily life for everyone yet.
3) Learning from each other. I obtained a lot of my musical knowledge through workshops by international artists myself. That is the reason why I can become a multiplier in this field by now. The participants are encouraged to share their experiences with others in return. As a result, a sustainable way of helping people to help themselves evolves.
The workshops are supposed to be free and without any admission fee for all participants. But of course, money for the workshop instructors, the equipment, instruments and rent is needed. The workshop-leaders, me and a local musician, are provided with food and basic housing. The more money the project collects, the longer we'll be able to continue with the workshops. Every dollar above the funding goal will be used to extend the music project.
The project is an initiative by me, I plan to realize it in cooperation with a local Palestinian educational institution.
