Die Vision ist es das erste Bauunternehmen auf ghanaischem Boden zu gründen, dass sich hauptsächlich auf den Bau von Tiny Häusern aus recyceltem Kunststoff spezialisiert. Ohemaa Green Housing (OGH) is a German-Ghanaian start-up initiative with the aim of redefining housing on African soil. The vision is to be the first construction company on Ghanaian soil to specialise mainly in the construction of Tiny Houses out of recycled plastic. With the current deficit of 1.8 million house units we want to offer an alternative to people who are left out of the current estate market.

What are the goals and who is the target group?

As the majority of the Ghanaian population is working in the informal sector, it has proven to be a challenge to sell house units directly to the individuals who need them most. High interest rates and lack of creditworthiness are a major issue. For this reason, we focus on clients who act as intermediaries, by either subsidising the costs or guaranteeing payment. Therefore our target group consists of NGOs, governmental and private institutions.

We also pursue the following goals:

Social goals

  • Raising awareness for a better environment (handling of plastics)
  • The increase of the quality of life, through equalization of overcrowded living spaces. Currently, on average 8 people share a 2-room apartment.

Economic goals

  • The creation of jobs in the informal sector, (e.g. collecting plastic, producing the building blocks, building the houses etc.)
  • To strengthen investment perspectives in Africa in order to create more local jobs

Ecological objectives

  • The reduction of plastic waste pollution of surrounding waters (e.g. the Atlantic Ocean) and local land areas.
  • To reduce the number of waste incinerations (resulting in uncontrolled release of toxic gases into the air) on open roads

Why should anyone support this project?

TO THE ENVIRONMENTALISTS
You always wanted to become active and promote effective solutions against the global plastic waste problem?

TO THE DO-GOODERS
Have you always wanted to support a project in Africa from which the people living there benefit in the long term, so that measures such as development aid will soon no longer be needed?

HERE IS YOUR CHANCE
We are convinced that in a critical time like this, more comprehensive solutions to the plastic waste problem and development aid are needed. Our answer to this is a social entrepreneurship approach.
With our enterprise we want to give plastic on African soil a new value and promote local infrastructure. We are guided by the circular economy principle. How OGH contributes to this?: In one of our housing units, at least six tons of plastic waste is processed and transformed into affordable housing units. Our long-term project needs financial support to establish environmental protection and the fight against the housing deficit in Ghana.

What happens with the money if the financing is successful?
In cooperation with Van Bo Le Mentzel & the IKV of the RWTH Aachen we developed a standard model of a Tiny House. This prototype including construction (and associated costs) costs 50000 Euro. Construction is scheduled to start at the beginning of June 2020 to test the functionality of the design and to reach other interested parties.
For larger donations from companies and private persons we use the following account:
MIGRAFICA E.V ; POSTBANK COLOGNE; IBAN: DE40 3701 0050 0974 1605 05 & VERY IMPORTANT THE PURPOSE OF USE: OGH Initiative - Name + Address (incl. donation receipt).

Who is behind the project?
Behind the project are Marylin Ogboko, Augustina Busiah and Alice Busiah, supported by a team of fifteen people. We are all in university education. We are united by the vision of a circular economy that benefits all sections of the population. Our partners are Enactus e.V., Social Impact Lab Bonn gG, Migrafrica e.V., Future of Ghana Germany and Bloqueplas Colombia.
