Born in Koblenz in 1980, Sinah Schlemmer left the Westerwald where she grew up at an early age. At 18, she moved to London for a few years to train as a dancer. After successfully graduating from the prestigious London Studio Centre in London, she returned to Germany and completed several successful contracts with the Deutsches Theater in Munich, the Stadttheater in Ingolstadt, and TV spots for MTV-Europe before moving to Cape Town in 2004. While there she continued her dance career and choreographed for numerous fashion shows such as the “Sports Illustrated Swimwear Show," the “Clifton Beach Challenge”, the “Starburst Band Tour”, and starred as a dancer in the Bollywood movie “Aitraaz,” (which was filmed in Cape Town). Returning to Germany in 2005, Sinah took a moment to pause from dancing and temporarily worked as a flight attendant until she started her marketing studies in Wiesbaden in 2006.
Always fascinated by the USA, she completed the last semester of her studies at the FIU School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Miami. Afterward came opportunity after opportunity. Through an internship at the TV channel “The Ski Channel,” she became the Marketing Manager for the channel during its inception. After several other successful ventures, Sinah launched her own ski clothing brand titled: Skihoe. The idea for the edgy name came up while Sinah and some of her friends (film producer Eric Iberg and the Poor Boyz Production team) were enjoying drinks at the Standard Hotel rooftop bar in downtown Los Angeles. It was the well-known producer who first came up with the name (a blending of Sinah’s maiden name, Hoenig, and her skiing passion).
Skihoe was the casual wear brand for freestyle skiers. The twin-tip skis, which were newly emerging at the time (and could also be used in reverse) created a completely new lifestyle sport that lacked the right look. Sinah designed the right fashion for this lifestyle, which was produced in Vietnam. An avid skier herself, Sinah advertised her ski fashion on the peaks of the Rocky Mountains and the slopes of California.
In 2011, Sinah suffered a serious setback in the form of a traumatic injury while skiing. The consequences were sever. The surgery itself was remarkable, but the time needed to fully recover was time lost to her business and opportunities. It was at this point that Sinah met her husband and her first son was born shortly after. With her husband and son, she moved back to the Westerwald in 2014, where her second son was born in 2016.
Today, the globetrotter is 42 and again full of energy, passion, and vision to begin new adventures!
