Crowdfunding since 2010

Construction of a world-class BMX-ramp park: Olympia meets Chilling at the Spree

The Mellowpark in Berlin Köpenick has always been a symbol for BMX in Germany, due to its ramps and national as well as international events and contests. Yet, it lost its centrepiece, the actual BMX-park, when it had to move location in 2010. That is why we are now planning a BMX-Superpark at its new position at Wuhlheide which is supposed to serve all amateur as well as Olympic riders. With your support we, the Mellow-Crew, will manage to raise our own share for the construction of the park.

What is this project all about?

Projekt M stands for the plan of constructing a BMX-Superpark, a world-class set of ramps, in Köpenick, the most southeast district of Berlin. These ramps can be used by any of our guests during our daily opening hours. At the same time, however, they are supposed to be the training spot for the future German BMX-Park national team.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

Although our prime target group are BMX riders, the ramps will be, according to our philosophy to “Never exclude anyone”, open for everybody, let it be BMX, Inliners, Skateboarders, Scooters, Roller skaters, or Wheelchair-Skaters.

Why would you support this project?

Mellowpark’s history began 17 years ago, when a small group of BMX-riders and skaters started to build the park for the first Mellowpark Jam in 2001. Driven by the desire to create some awesome ramps for themselves, they composed a park whose dimensions were unique in Europe at the time. Accordingly, Mellowpark became the new Mecca for riders from all over the world.
Another original idea of the park was to bring different youth cultures together and create a place where young people could just be themselves. Over the course of the years the park developed into a cultural youth centre within the public space and successfully symbolizes self-determined leisure activities. Each year more than 40.000 people visit the park and make use of its great and diverse opportunities. The sustainment of the park is only possible with the help of our young clients themselves who actively help maintain it, for example by fixing the ramps and running the office where you can rent helmets, bikes and skateboards.
When Mellowpark had to move location in 2010 to the new site at the Wuhlheide, the much loved BMX-Park, its centre piece until then, was lost,.
With the help of the Crowdfunding campaign Projekt M - building Europe’s first BMX Superpark we are trying to raise our share necessary to be able to give back its former centre piece to Mellowpark. It is only with your support that we, together with our construction team, can jump-start the new BMX-Superpark for all friends of ramps and future Olympic riders.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The money raised will make the construction of the BMX-Superpark possible because it covers our own necessary share of the complete financing. The Berliner Senate and Mellowpark e.V. will then take over the rest.
