The Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park on the Philippine island of Panay is home to many endangered animal and plant species found only there.
The problem
During the pandemic, many people in the Philippines are unable to earn money. For this reason, the problem of clearing but also poaching in the natural park has drastically worsened since Corona. Unfortunately, we discovered many new slash and burn sites.
Solution
In order to protect the rainforest and prevent poaching and further clearing, it is imperative that our rangers patrol the nature park on a regular basis. They stop arsonists, extinguish set fires, document and report the damage. They also curb poaching by destroying poachers' traps and convincing them to surrender.
We need your support to keep our rangers patrolling regularly so they can effectively protect the nature park and its wildlife.
Unfortunately, because of Corona, we have not been able to sell our unique items such as our handmade copper print postcards, hand-sewn cloth handkerchiefs and other goodies such as homemade deodorant, bath balls and vegan liver sausage at the Christmas markets and street fairs. So we are missing about 1000€ income = donations for PhilinCon from last year and the outreach to the people. Now we have thought about and put together packages for you, with sustainable,
handmade and new goodies.
Become a rainforest savior!
We would like to give friends and supporters of PhilinCon's projects and the rainforest the opportunity to help us fund more ranger operations during this crisis. Thus also reducing poaching and clearing on the ground to a minimum until the general situation improves or we find a partner for our rangers.
Our rainforest on Panay is unique and worth protecting because there is still a lot of primary virgin forest. In this forest live endemic animals, which only occur there, but are threatened by poaching. We enjoy our work and have been doing so for more than 25 years. We are very happy about your support for the rainforest.
With your support you help those who fight for the preservation of the rainforest and their families.
In addition, you are fighting against the extinction of species and for the preservation of the rainforest - and you become rainforest heroes.
Cost per ranger mission
We use it to cover the cost of ranger operations in the Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park and surrounding areas. We pay the travel expenses and food for the 16 rangers to patrol the forest.
We are also trying to pay the salary of 10 of the 16 rangers so that they and their families are taken care of. 6 of the ranger salaries (£690/month in total) are paid by our partner Bristol Zoological Society, but unfortunately this is not enough to fund (enough) outreach.
Seeking ranger funding partner.
We rely on donations and are currently looking for a collaborative partner who can cover the salaries of up to 10 rangers for some time. A ranger salary costs only 125€ per month. You can download our ranger report 2020 on our ranger page or we will gladly send it to you.
If we take in more than 500€, we would use a part for food and care of the wildlife in our sanctuaries. Our basic projects cost about 1250€ every month, plus the ranger costs.
We are a recognized non-profit organization and therefore you can claim your donations as tax deductible at the tax office. We can also issue donation receipts, but we need your address.
