Sandburg offers an innovative concept of childcare to combine a successful professional life with parenthood. Many want both - children and affirmation at work, family life and professional development opportunities. If both parents work, they face major challenges: How to take good care of the children during working hours? How to spend as much quality time with them as possible and at the same time meet the pressure to perform at work? A difficult balancing act that is often accompanied by feelings of guilt about not doing justice to either the work or the child. However, adequate childcare services and support for working parents have so far left much to be desired. Limited opening hours of external childcare facilities put additional pressure on parents.
Companies that allow employees to work from home or organise childcare in the company help to better combine work and family. However, it is almost impossible for working parents to balance childcare and work at home. The Covid-19 crisis has presented parents working from home and their children around the world with precisely this challenge.
The Sandburg Hub model offers the optimal solution:
Parents and children stay together in specially designed open-plan offices and professional childcare is right there in the room - for 12 hours per working day. This relieves the burden, removes feelings of guilt and promotes productive work. Our Proof of Concept has already shown: The Sandburg concept works! Features in Sandburg Hubs have dual functions: they serve to entertain the children and at the same time they are sound-attenuated to keep the noise level as low as possible. Parents can use soundproof room-in-room booths for phone calls and meetings. All materials used are non-toxic and padded wherever possible.
Our goal is to combine successful professional lives with parenthood. Our social system is currently not geared towards parents who enjoy their work and do not want to give up time with their child or their job. The Sandburg concept is an important step in the right direction: it offers mothers and fathers the opportunity to pursue their professional goals without missing out on the development of their children. We dispel the myth that children need to be completely separated from their parents in order for them to work effectively. Our Proof of Concept shows that both children and working parents are happier when they stay close to each other. And it means increased productivity for the parents!

We want to be financially self-reliant as soon as possible and are striving for long-term cooperation with companies, cities and municipalities that want to support working parents with family-friendly measures. We are already in touch with interested potential partners who want to support some of the workspaces in our hubs, i.e. an open-plan parent-child office according to Sandburg's unique room design: the facility serves to entertain the children and is sound-attenuating at the same time. Parents are thus able to work productively and undisturbed and decide for themselves when to spend time with their child. In the meantime, loving childminders take care of the little ones. With the minimum amount of €5,000, we will do public relations to win over companies and cities to open Sandburg Hubs. This amount also goes towards the acquisition of educators. If successfully funded with over €200,000, we can set up a flagship hub.
Sandburg is an internationally growing team of highly qualified and motivated specialists with a wide range of expertise. We work from Germany, Austria, England and Denmark to make the Sandburg concept a reality for working parents. All Sandburg employees work pro bono.
