We will create an extensive rescue supermarket knowledge library, hire a franchise expert and expand our warehouse and logistics capacity.
In April 2017, we launched our first crowdfunding campaign, raising more than €90,000 for our idea of making food saving mainstream.
More than 1700 crowdfunding supporters and many other great people and partners have helped us to open our first rescue market in Berlin Charlottenburg in September 2017.
A lot has happened since then. We launched our online shop, opened a total of 4 rescue supermarkets in Berlin and, together with hundreds of thousands of customers, saved thousands of tons of food, resulting in several million meals saved.
Our Vision at SIRPLUS is to make it easy for everyone to save food. We want to make it possible for everyone to have enough food to eat,
and we want to take the next big step with you! Despite the efforts of the food banks, which save hundreds of thousands of tons annually in Germany, millions of tons are still wasted each year and we want to change that with your help!
That's why we decided to let our sustainable and social concept grow through a franchise system, so that many more people all over Germany can save not only through our online shop, but also in a SIRPLUS rescue supermarket in your city.
Together with you we want to rescue surplus food throughout Germany that would otherwise be wasted due to overproduction, odd shapes, or because they are just before or after the best before date.
We want to offer all people the opportunity to support the appreciation and sustainable use of food, not only to protect the environment, but also to save them money. Growing and producing food creates CO2 emissions and uses water and fertile land, which is completely wasted if the food is not consumed.
The time has come for us to conserve the earth's precious resources and fight the unnecessary waste of food.
If food waste were a country, it would be next to China and the US the largest C02 omitter, accounting for 8% of all global greenhouse gas emissions. In total, an area that is 1.5 times larger than the European Unions is grown food which will never be eated. That is why the United Nations and the Chancellor have set themselves the goal of reducing 50% of food waste by 2030.
Together with you, we will make a significant contribution to bringing the issue to the center of society and providing a second chance for millions of foods.
Every day we recieve messages from you asking us when a Rescue Supermarket will finally come to your city. Hundreds of people have already asked us how they can open a SIRPLUS franchise Rescue Supermarket themselves.
We have learned a lot in the last 1.5 years and would like to pass on our knowledge and experience so that you don't make our mistakes again ;). This is a big step and a complex task for us, for which we need your support.
With your help we want to lay the foundation to realize our next big goal, to spread SIRPLUS nationwide. As a franchise partner of SIRPLUS you can build your own business in the SIRPLUS way and benefit from the hard work and expertise we are able to offer.
Although we have already saved thousands of tons of food - one truckload of food is still wasted every minute in Germany alone. The financing will lay the foundation for SIRPLUS to be available to develop a franchise concept and soon be able to offer a rescue supermarket throughout Germany. Together with our great partners, our team and of course, with your support, we will document all of our supermarket processes and our accumulated experience and hire a franchise expert to help us create an extensive knowledge library for our future franchise partners. We will expand our warehouse and logistics capacity to ensure delivery and supply throughout Germany.
This will allow us to save even more food together with you!
In the meantime, the SIRPLUS team has more than 70 wonderful rescue warriors who are working in our supermarkets, in our warehouse, and in our office, or on the road, rescuing food which would otherwise be wasted.
Raphael Fellmer has been campaigning against food waste since 2009 and became known for his 5-year money strike. Already with his food saving movement founded in 2012 (today known as "foodsharing"), more than 55,000 food savers have been inspired to volunteer and stand for the appreciation of food. This has already saved over 23 million kilograms of food. Together with his friend of many years, environmental engineer and foodsharing pioneer Martin Schott, the two founded SIRPLUS in 2017.
Thankfully, since its inception SIRPLUS has been supported by an increasing number of private individuals, companies and organisations who have helped us achieve our ambitious goal. Since the opening of the 1st rescue supermarket, over 100,000 loyal customers have supported us, and over 600 cooperation partners have helped save millions of tons of food which was not able to be collected by food banks or foodhsaring. The supporters also include Climate-KIC, a support programme of the European Union, law firms, advertising agencies and many other partners who support us pro bono and made SIRPLUS possible in the first place. Last but not least we would like to thank Lukas Karl & Tobias Jansen from Vidream, who produced the crowdfunding film with a lot of heart.
Now the only thing that is missing is you! We are looking forward to working together to achieve great things, and get closer to our vision of a world where all people have enough to eat and all proeduced food is eaten.
