CD-Projekt "STELLA MARIS"

We want 'Stella Maris' to be our first CD. It will feature sacred a cappella music spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day. In the last few years, Univocale chamber choir has devoted its efforts to bring to life repertoire that has been neglected or is rarely performed in Germany. What is this project all about?

‘Stella Maris’ is our most ambitious project so far – a programme consisting of sacred a cappella music dealing with the historical and biblical figure of Mary. The repertoire comprises a varied selection of music composed throughout the last thousand years:

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

We want to produce a recording of rarely performed music with the highest possible standard. Our CD is going to be for anyone interested in fine music-making, and for anyone willing to help our young singers create something enduring.

Why would you support this project?

The repertoire of our CD will feature some of the most inspiring music ever composed for an a cappella choir. By supporting us you will promote a choir of young, highly motivated singers, who devote time and energy to classical music and want to share this passion with a high quality recording.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

Recording a CD is expensive: it requires sound engineers, cover design, electricians, location, and much more – all of this costs money. A small part of the expenses will be financed through the CD sales, but this will not be sufficient to cover all the costs. The crowdfunding will allow us to fund the core of the CD production.

Who are the people behind the project?

Univocale is a chamber choir consisting mainly of students fom various Berlin universities. It was founded in 2009 with its main focus being the performance of music that is rarely performed, sometimes even neglected in Germany. There is no institution like a university or a church behind Univocale: we are a nonprofit associaton, meaning that conductor and singers work on a voluntary basis. The money that we earn through concerts and through crowdfunding is immediately reinvested in good music – something everyone can benefit from.
