Crowdfunding since 2010

A stageplay for small and big, deaf and hearing human beings at age 5 and above

We stage theatre performances for deaf&hearing children. Following our first production „silent waters“, which premiered at Theaterhaus Frankfurt in 2013, we are now planning our next project “silent glances” in the same cooperation, so that esp. deaf children will continuously be able to have access to the world of theatre. We strive to create a world in which they should be able to meet with hearing kids at eye level, so that all of them can submerge into the same fantasy&equally comprehend.

What is this project all about?

Our theatre performance will be about a father and his daughter. They play, they dance, they live together. But the father, vivacious and full of life, is missing his stern daughter’s laughter/ ability to laugh. They both go on separate journeys to put a smile back on the girl’s face. By doing so, they find out that one has to become one’s own greatest home to be able to be happy at all.
The light-flooded world on stage will be occupied by two players who will show the audience why not only body language and hands but also facial expression are important to understand each other.
Using no language, little sound but lots of starlight, deaf and hearing children and adults alike are invited on this journey in search of a smile.
Alongside the hearing actress Asta Nechajute we will be working once again with the deaf actor Jürgen Endress.
In addition, we have worked out a stage- and lighting concept that we hope will invite the younger and older audience to marvel, dream and laugh with us.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

We want to give deaf children from five years the chance to experience and understand the location and concept of theatre. On stage we do not work with spoken or sign language but we try to find another kind of language using the body, the heart and visual components. That way, both hearing and non-hearing children will have the chance to get to know theatre without encountering communication or comprehension problems.
We want to build a bridge between the hearing and the non-hearing world also thematically – instead of pointing out the differences, we are trying to show all the similarities. With this there may be a chance for deaf children to be able to strengthen and appreciate their own identity and for the hearing audience to get to know the non-hearing world.

Why would you support this project?

Everybody supporting us is helping to make our theatre production happen in the most professional way and the highest quality possible. Furthermore, you are helping to make theatre performances for deaf children a natural matter of course. And maybe you will also learn to listen with your eyes, to be just a bit amazed and to communicate with your hearts.
With your donation you will also make it possible for us to show our production not only in theatres but in public spaces as well, so we can reach as many deaf, hearing and non-native-speaking children and adults to show them our production and our concern for breaking down unnecessary walls in communication.
IF YOU SUPPORT US, TELL EVERYBODY YOU KNOW ABOUT OUR PROJECT! SEND THE LINK VIA MAIL, FAX, SKYPE, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, VIDEOPHONE, LETTER, SMS OR WHATEVER WAY YOU CAN THINK OF!

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The financial means for the personnel costs will be provided by the office for cultural affairs of Frankfurt. We still wait for the approval of funding applications at two private foundations and Hessen country. Three private foundations declined our application already so that we will not reach our calculated amount of money without your help! The stage scenery by Lukas Wegner will be a light installation of lots of surprising elements and is meant to be a visual experience for the audience. We will need adequate technical equipment to be able to perform autonomously on tour outside of theatres.
Our goal is 6000.-€ - BUT WE WON’T GET ANGRY, IF MORE MONEY IS COLLECTED. LET OUR GOAL EXPLODE WITH ALL OF YOUR DONATIONS!
Should there really be more than 6.000€ at the end of our donation campaign, all of the extra money will be used by Compagnie Augenmusik for up-coming projects with the same thematic focus.

Who are the people behind the project?

Compagnie Augenmusik is an independent theatre group which was founded in May 2013 in Frankfurt am Main. With director Daniela Krabbe and designer/technician Lukas Wegner the Compagnie looks, particularly but not only, into the subject of theatre for deaf children.
With a changing cast and in cooperation with other hearing, deaf or hearing-impaired artists and performers we want to find new forms of storytelling and presentation methods, so that deaf children will get an approach to the world of theatre.
Taking into account the sensual experiences of deaf or hearing-impaired children, our main point of reception is seeing and feeling. We would like to make music for the eyes and would like to put this special feeling, that music is able to conjure in us, onto stage and therefore into the hearts of our audience (hearing, deaf or hearing-impaired).

Actor/Actress: Jürgen Endress, Asta Nechajute
Concept & Director: Daniela Krabbe
Light & Stage: Lukas Wegner
Costume: Céline Vajen

The premiere will take place on May 21st 2017 at the Theaterhaus Frankfurt.
After that we would like our performance to happen on tour all over Germany, Europe and the whole world to let deaf children everywhere know that theatre is meant for them too.
