Grönlanddurchquerung 2020

Am Sonntag erreichten wir auf 2507 m Höhe unser Camp 19 Hochebene, das Evi Liefring gewidmet ist. Die Tagesetappe war sehr anstrengend, da sich der stumpfe Schnee wie Sandpapier unter den Skiern und Pulken anfühlte. Dennoch ist die Sastrugi-Landschaft im Sonnen-schein wunderschön anzusehen.
Die neue Woche startete mit einer Temperatur von -10°C und strahlendem Sonnenschein. Zu unserem Glück war die Oberfläche leicht bereif und so glitten die Pulken einigermaßen gut durchs Gelände. In der zweiten Tageshälfte versuchten wir den Rückenwind zu nutzen und haben die Segel ausgepackt, doch der Wind stellte sich als zu schwach heraus, um uns und die schwere Ausrüstung Richtung Westen zu transportieren. Deshalb ging es dann doch müh-sam auf Skiern vorwärts und am Ende des Tages konnten wir 16 km zurückgelegen. Nach drei Wochen Anstieg haben wir den Scheitelpunkt unserer Überquerung erreicht. Das höchstgelegene Camp der Tour auf 2550 Metern über NN soll „Highcamp“ heißen und an Wilfried Korth erinnern.
Der Dienstag markierte zwar den Beginn des Abstiegs in Richtung Westküste aber die Bedingungen wurden zusehends schlechter. Bei -15°C, straffem Gegenwind und schlechter Sicht haben wir uns durch den Tag gekämpft. Der Lageraufbau musste dann sogar bei Wind um die 50 km/h stattfinden. Das Camp 21 heißt daher „Stürmisches Camp“ und ist Franziska und Felix Korth sowie Georg Kupke gewidmet.
Auch gestern war es mit morgens -21°C du über den Tag maximal -16°C eher kalt. Hinzu kam ein strammer Gegenwind und sehr stumpfer Triebschnee, sodass wir uns nur 13,8 km voran-kämpfen konnten. Beim Lageraufbau für das Camp 22 „Osterzgebirge“, dass wir dem Freundeskreis von Luisas Eltern widmen brach dann auch noch eine Zeltstange, die wir aber schnell reparieren konnten.
Unsere Messungen der Höhe und Schneedichte laufen nach wie vor sehr gut und trotz aller Anstrengungen sind alle gesund und freuen sich auf die kommenden Tage!

Garmin Explore

On Sunday we reached our Camp 19 “plateau” at an altitude of 2507 m, which is dedicated to Evi Liefring. The day's stage was very exhausting because the dull snow felt like sandpaper under the skis and pulkas. Nevertheless, the Sastrugi landscape is beautiful to look at in the sunshine.
The new week started with a temperature of -10° C and bright sunshine. Fortunately for us, the surface was slightly frosted and so the pulkas glided reasonably well through the terrain. In the second half of the day we tried to use the tail wind and unpacked the sails, but the wind turned out to be too weak to transport us and the heavy equipment westwards. So it was difficult to go forward on skis and at the end of the day we were able to cover 16 km. After three weeks of climbing, we have reached the apex of our crossing. The highest camp of the tour at 2550 meters above sea level is to be called "Highcamp" and remind of Wilfried Korth.
Tuesday marked the beginning of the descent towards the west coast, but the conditions became noticeably worse. We fought our way through the day at -15° C, strong headwind and poor visibility. The camp had to be set up even in winds of around 50 km/h. Camp 21 is therefore called “Stormy Camp” and is dedicated to Franziska and Felix Korth and Georg Kupke.
Also yesterday it was rather cold with -21° C in the morning and a maximum of -16° C during the day. In addition, there was a strong headwind and very dull snowdrifts, so that we could only fight our way forward 13.8 km. When setting up Camp 22 "Osterzgebirge", which we dedicate to the friends of Luisa's parents, a tent pole broke, but we were able to repair it quickly.
Our measurements of altitude and snow density are still going very well and despite all our efforts, everyone is healthy and looking forward to the coming days!
