Designer Vorschlag 27: STRAIGHT CURLS
Straightcurls is Munich born and bred. Owned and run by Hülya Aktas it burst onto the scene with its Spring/Summer 2014 collection. With a penchant for individual design and a loyalty to quality production StraightCurls has embodied the notion of fine style and re- written the rules.
It was in 2011, during a three month stay in San Francisco that Hülya took her first steps into the realm of fashion. With no prior experience but an undeterred passion to learn she signed up for a pattern making course at one of the city’s design schools and it was here amidst the city’s rolling hills that the idea for StraightCurls was initially conceived.
Upon her return to Munich Hülya soon found herself assembling pieces for family and friends, something which eventually materialised into producing a full summer collection. What primarily started as a side project rapidly gathered pace but the vision was always simple: creating innovative, offbeat designs for the fashion conscious.
Like the bustling Bavarian streets down below her studio Hülya’s designs never stand still. Her collections epitomise the antithesis between the conventional and the avant-garde; marrying traditional eastern prints with contemporary western trends Straightcurls is -in essence- the lovechild of eastern and western couture.
From sourcing the finest materials to sewing the prototypes, each and every step of the design process is an intimate affair. It is the brand’s remit to revolutionise the concept of individuality which is why each garment is specifically hand-designed and limited in number.
Committed to the creativity of effortless style Straightcurls establishes itself as a timeless yet progressive label where fashion and influence are perfectly intertwined.
‘ Style should not be governed by rules but rather by the influences that we feel most suited to at any given time’. --Hülya
