Ten years from 1999 Sebastian Popp has been the festival director of the eDIT FILMMAKER'S FESTIVAL, winning amongst others partners from the US and England in the past. Over the years the festival invited and presented first-class artists from film (Michael Ballhaus, Wim Wenders, Dante Ferretti, Peter Greenaway, Dennis Muren, Tom Rolf, Vilmos Zsigmond, Phil Tippett, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Ray Harryhausen and Terry Gilliams), music (Grace Jones, Helen Schneider, Branford Marsalis, Nina Hagen) and performing arts (William Forsythe). Fruitfull cooperations with major cultural institutions of the region (e.g. DEUTSCHES FILMMUSEUM, FRANKFURTER BUCHMESSE) have been achieved.
As team coordinator of a Frankfurt-based film production company during the mid 1990s he moderated and accompanied the restructuring of the company. During that time he obtained a comprehensive insight into the European movie and media environment and realised a variety of cultural projects for various clients. An example is the collaboration with Sarajevo-born director Emir Kusturica and Jean-Christoph Ammann, head of the MUSEUM FÜR MODERNE KUNST at that time.
As well he worked in 90s as Consultant in the fields of media financing, concepts and sponsorship for filmmaking and post - production companies, which includes the Co-development and distribution of PANDORA FILM FUND (financing of arthouse films).
Sebastian Popp was founding president of the VEREINIGUNG DER HESSISCHEN FILMWIRTSCHAFT (professional association of the film industry in Hessen) and was member of the jury of HessenInvestFilm for two years, the commercial film support fund of the Federal State Hessen. He has been acquainted with the cultural scene for more than 30 years and not merely attended but also helped to shape it.
Sebastian Popp has more than 25 years experience in the planning, organisation and execution of a large series of cultural events.
From 1989 until 1993 and 2012 until today he is city councillor in Frankfurt. In this role he was member of the supervisory board of many important communal cultural organisations, from the ALTE OPER, STÄDTISCHE BÜHNEN FRANKFURT GMBH, the KULTURGESELLSCHAFT mbH (former including: THEATER AM TURM, Künstlerhaus MOUSONTURM, SCHIRN KUNSTHALLE) through to SAALBAU GmbH. To this day he is consulting various ministries, political parties and the Hessian government. He is acquainted with the relevant stakeholders, their hidden and open strategies as well as the cultural environment in the Rhine-Main-Region.
Sebastian Popp is not only Frankfurter but also European by passion. Upon finishing his studies he worked as an EU-consultant and advised institutions (eg. ministries in Thuringia) as well as local executing organisations regarding calls for proposals of the European Union. Besides the emphasis on European social funds he also consulted providers of cultural measures (KALEIDOSKOP, MEDIA, city partnerships and more).
