The book describes Trajan's Column in Rome in words and pictures. On the over 200-metre-long frieze of Trajan's Column in Rome, the Roman Emperor Trajan documented his campaigns against the Dacians. Ancient art was originally by no means white, but painted in colour. In painstaking detail, electronic colouring has succeeded in restoring the appearance of the reliefs to what they might once have looked like. You have never seen the column like this before.

Worum geht es in dem Projekt?

The Cologne book author Ritchie Pogorzelski is planning a new project called "The Column of Trajan - A War in Colour". The 228-page hardcover book (DIN A4 portrait format) will include more than 200! pictures of the column as well as original artefacts. The imposing, almost 40-metre-high marble column on Trajan's Forum in the heart of Rome is a prime example of a Roman victory monument. On the over 200-metre-long frieze of Trajan's Column in Rome, the Roman Emperor Trajan (98 -117 CE) documented his two campaigns against the Dacians, a people in what is now Romania, and his overwhelming victory. Ancient monuments were originally by no means left white, but painted in colour. The colourfulness made it possible to recognise even small details. In painstaking detail, the author has succeeded in recapturing the appearance of the reliefs as they might once have looked by colouring electronic pictures. Today's viewers can thus reinterpret details of Roman military history. Actual photos of reenactment scenes complement the first complete colour reproduction of the powerful work of art.
The planned retail price is 59.90 euros and March/April 2023 is the scheduled delivery date. Here at Startnext, the purchase price is 49.90!!!

Was sind die Ziele und wer ist die Zielgruppe?

The book aims to dispel the outdated views that ancient art was always white and unpainted. It is intended to lay the foundations for the scholarly discussion of ancient art beyond the boundaries of individual subjects. The book aims to vividly show how colourful and versatile the art of the ancient peoples was, thus bringing it back to life. With these new research results, the volume fills a striking research gap and is a source of information for anyone interested in ancient history and art. And of course, befitting the subject, the book should make exciting and entertaining reading! The book is not only aimed at "fans" of Roman art and those interested in various academic disciplines, but at all those who are enthusiastic about the ancient world.

Warum sollte jemand dieses Projekt unterstützen?

To help us realise our project, into which we have poured a lot of love, time and heart and soul. Our project is an experiment: Can innovative, young research also be realised outside of fixed university structures?
We believe that it is worth investing knowledge, time and commitment if you are passionate about a topic. And we hope to be able to infect some of you with this enthusiasm.
If we manage to tackle the project together, we will not only publish a great book - but also realise many other projects on the fascinating topic of the "Ancient World". We thought long and hard about how to publish the book. After much deliberation, we decided against a publishing house, because that was not what we wanted!
That's why we looked for our own way: CROWDFUNDING. We simply could not afford to pre-finance the printing. Without you, the book is not possible. That's why we are now using Startnext to give you the opportunity to pre-order our work. Everyone who supports us contributes to the fact that this book exists at all.
We have also kept a page in the book free. We want to fill it up. With your names! Through the "thank-you notes", everyone has the opportunity to get on this "Wall of Fame" and thus be named as a supporter of this work.

Was passiert mit dem Geld bei erfolgreicher Finanzierung?

The money will be used entirely to cover the printing costs, as it is a thick and high-quality book.
Edition: 400 copies
Hardcover, thread stitching
with 228 pages in colour on quality paper
