As a new space for art & culture the Co]l[lab is a collective laboratory for the public – offering (space for) exhibitions, workshops, lectures and all sorts of events – as well as home for different groups/projects (including a private atelier area). It's a co working area for fashion and sewing, (screen) printing and electronic experimental music. The front room will be dedicated to all sorts of public events, at the interface between culture and critical thinking / practice.
We want to bring people together. That means that the crew inside of Colab, who wants to explore and see what's possible due to these different art disciplines we are bringing with us, can in fact do something pretty innovative when putting the skills together. And on the other hand we are offering a public space for people who want to give lectures, workshops etc. for low costs, work together with us to share skills or want to be seen as artists in our gallery space.
The Colab is located in an area were there is not much opportunity to use this kind of space. Nothing similar is near us. So its a really important thing for people around. Actually its pretty hard these days to find a way into art and events when u are not going through a certain structure of judgment. We want to offer new possibilities and support the unseen culture in being a safe space.
The most important thing at the moment is: we need money to pay the basics - our monthly rent and energy costs. There is also furniture needed to finish the kitchen room and the public space.
Anika Katzengold is a viennese tattoo artist who had the idea to built up a new space for critical art and culture. Now there is also Carina Klammer and Jerome Trebing with their project looplab. And last but not least there is Astrid Eder, known as sew.i.y. streetwear, and Anika Katzengold who are co working in the privat ateliers as a team for sewing and screen printing.
