What is this project all about?

The Belgian artist Frans Masereel created an extensive work of woodcuts including two books about the harbour cities of Antwerp and Hamburg in the sixties. As a Hamburg based Antwerp visitor I had a strong feeling of finding myself in a living woodcut in both cities. I wanted to express this feeling in a photographic way and tried to find an approach to transport his ideas into modern times. Thus my work will have similarities with original motifs of Masereel but as well interpretations what would have been his motif nowadays. All in all this is a challenging and versatile project. Stay curious!

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

This project aims at a photographic approach to Masereels work. I am looking for photographic means to express the concentrated motif content of the black & white woodcuts. I chose a reduction to two or three colours as an apropriate mean to lead the eye of the viewer within the motif. I´m sure this project will not only be challenging for me but also interesting for everyone with a passion for art.

Why would you support this project?

As rewards for your support you can choose some of the motifs of the exhibition as prints - you will receive a piece of art and help me realise this exhibition - fair deal, don´t you think?

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

All funded support will be used to realise the exhibition prints, rewards and delivery, as well as the costs of the platform. Without your support the project can´t be executed.

Photographer Walter „owi“ Ort (© owi-diasign)
After my diploma at the FH Würzburg-Schweinfurt for communication design, with a major in Photo- / AV- design, I planned and created several multi-image shows from 4 to 30 slide projectors, parts in panoramic format, programmed with state-of-the-art equipment by the swedish company Dataton. Clients were Adidas, Bambi, Echo, Nike, Ford, Epson, Rank Xerox and Schering (for 100th jubilee of W.C. Röntgen ́s x-rays).
1992 - 1993 I had a teaching assignment for 2 semesters in muiti-image at the FH Würzburg-Schweinfurt.
For Bruno Galbiati, a well-known artist from Naples, I planned, photographed and created a big show featuring his works in panoramic format. With my work from this project and several other multi-image projects, I participated in international artistic slide and multi-image festivals such as Mediale Nürnberg, Arte Multivisione Rieti and Fantadia Asolo. At most of these festivals, I had been working as a technical director due to my long-term experience in this field.
When the medium of multi-image started descending in 2000 due to new technical developments I returned to photography as a profession and started working as a freelance photographer for image libraries in 2003.
In 2014 I started creating an archive of 360o-photography or dome-photography mainly featuring motifs of Hamburg. Some of these Photos are now being used by planetary Hamburg as backgrounds for dome projection, some will be in exhibition this and next year in Hamburg as the project „(a)Round Hamburg“.
My current focus is my new project „Antwerp and Hamburg – Masereel ́s Cities“, that I want to present to the public in autumn this year.

Why does this project contribute to this goal?

Dealing with art and culture is a measure of the quality of education. My project aims at spreading knowledge and interest in art and new developments within.
Furthermore I´m looking for stable and enduring cooperations with other artists and related suppliers as with my partner Foto Company Altona that worked me with on my last project as well.

This project also pays toward those goals
