Crowdfunding since 2010

The ban: negotiations at UN, it is coming, civil society plays a role. I want to get visual documentation, photography from inside.

In July a treaty was adopted at the UN. A legally binding instrument to ban nuclear weapons. It was a world changing event. My photographs aim to look into the many moments during the 3 ½ weeks of negotiations. Who took part? What happened? A visual documentation that makes a difference by just having it. After New York I am going on with the work. Starting a photographic long term project.

What is this project all about?

During the preparations to go to New York it was a photographic experiment to me. There will be a contract to ban nuclear weapons. What impact that will have is open. Is it possible to capture a deep insight into what is going on?

I don't like press photography. I don't get much from it. I want a more intimate more direct visual viewpoint.

After the first few days at the conference, I produced a set of well received campaign photos and started to know how to move with a camera inside the UN building.

Now my aim is to keep on with the work. At an international level the next two events will be in September. In New York and Geneva.

To go on I need a financial base to work with.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

My photos are part of the NGOs visual campaign. It is documentary and also a creative campaign of photography.

I am working to develop a visual language that is not just stressing on dramatic but has a strong impressive focus.

Besides delivering visuals I want to collect a photo series that tells a dense story to become an exhibition. This will be at a later time, when the world has probably changed. The ban treaty has made an impact.

Why would you support this project?

This crowdfunding action is to cover my work in New York during the treaty negotiations. Which I did on my private budget. And it is to get funds for upcoming travel expenses.

I need to work independently as a photographer. If I would need to ask for full coverage of expenses, most projects would not happen. So, supporting the project is supporting me in doing it.

I also offer some perks. Which are prints from my photo-set called "planetoids".

If you like to get a perk and want it send outside of Germany or Europe, you need to select the extra shipping cost, the top item of the perk selection list.

If you like the idea, the best is to just donate.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

I spend money on:

  • refinancing the travel costs to New York
  • renting of equipment and other hardware expenses
  • postproduction
  • producing the perks
  • upcoming travel costs

800€
part of my travel cost to New York

4000€
New York, Büchel and other events in Germany are covered

6500€
I can attend other related international events

8000€ +
will secure a more long time project

Who are the people behind the project?

me as a photographer

thanks to "ICAN" and "control arms" for the accreditations
