5.500 € is what we need to cover the basic production costs, mostly travel expenses and lodging for the international cast.
CABOOM combines the musical power of tap with the visual impact of contemporary dance: a pulsating, passionate, rough-and-tumble piece about chaos in life and society.
It's chaos, when situations become unpredictable. When plans fail, when everything happens at once or things turn out all different than expected. Chaos makes individuals and whole societies stumble.
CABOOM celebrates the potential and creative energy of chaos in a multilayered composition for five dancers.
After his cross-genre productions „Synchronzeugen“ and „The Legend of Syd O’Noo“, Sebastian Weber returns to "pure" dance with CABOOM and developes a movement language with his company, that dissolves the traditional look of tap dance and creates something new which the term "tap dance" describes insufficiently.
The aim of the project is, to launch the SEBASTIAN WEBER DANCE COMPANY and to create a new style of contemporary tap dance by transferring methods and concepts from contemporary dance, music, dramaturgy, and movement analysis.
The project is for lovers of contemporary forms of dance and theater.
Because it is the beginning of a new dance company, of a new style of dance, and potentially of a great story. And because it helps some real nice, hard-working, passionate artists, too!
The money fills the gaps in our production account and is used to cover the costs of travel and lodging of the artists, and the rental costs of rehearsal studios and equipment.
If more than the minimal amount is collected, any extra money will be invested in improving the endowment of our short film production. We will then be able to pay a professional camera (wo)man and rent better light gear, which will greatly improve our chances of making that film good.
Sebastian Weber from Leipzig is the choreographer and artistic director of the project.
Sebastian has been invited to perform at festivals and venues of all kind across Europe, as well as in the US, West Africa and China. He is considered a very musical stylist and brings tap dance into unconventional, innovative contexts. For his multi-genre work, he has received prestigeous grants and has been awarded with the "Leipzig movement arts award" twice.
The economic responsibility lies with Sebastian and his wife Gesa Volland, who run the "Tanzerei Flugfisch" - a vibrant school of dance and creative hub in Leipzig.
Dancers of the project are Andrea Alvergue from Madrid, Helen Duffy from London, Janne Eraker from Oslo, Nik Kemeny from Düsseldorf and Sebastian Weber. Michela Pesce from Rome is choreography assistant.
