The traditional way of cultivating Colombian coffee

Matthias Stäheli
Matthias Stäheli1 min Lesezeit

Did you know, that in the 1970's, most so-called Guamo trees in the main coffee region of Colombia were felled to increase the coffee production with stronger solar irradiation? Coffee farmers in the region told me that they remember the whole Eje Cafetero as a paradise full of Guamo trees – when they were kids.
⠀
Now, this is one of the reasons why I want to support the amazing woodland coffee of my amigo Miguel Ángel, high up in the Colombian coffee mountains: His sustainable way of coffee farming safes the forest, the biodiversity and results in strong coffee shrubs, which – because of the cool temperatures – only produce one harvest a year. But.. who needs two harvests, if you can have one that is simply breathtaking?

Thanks for supporting us!
