What is this project all about?

Since 2015 I have regularly traveled to Colombia to work with Colombian composers and bring their music on stage. The country fascinates me with its diversity in cultures, in nature and above all in contemporary music life, which we know so little about here in Germany. Therefore I decided to publish this music in Europe. For the publication I chose to work with six Colombian composers from my generation (born 1971 - 1986): Ana María Romano, Carolina Noguera, Carlos Rico, Daniel Leguizamón, Natalia Valencia und Jorge García Moncada. We grew up in very different parts of the world and in different realities which still shape us today. Nevertheless - or precisely because of that? - we have a lot to say to each other and there was a lively artistic exchange in the creation of the music. The resulting pieces are versatile, profound, personal, surprising and touching and arouse curiosity about the rich culture of Colombia. Thankfully, I was allowed to record the music in the broadcasting hall of Deutschlandfunk in October 2022. "Voces, señales" will be released in September 2023 with GENUIN label and I need support for the production of the CD and other related costs.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

My goal is to make the selected Colombian music accessible to a wide audience in Europe. The physical CD represents an artistic approach to Colombia, a country whose rich culture is little represented in Europe. In the booklet text and in a podcast that will be published over the summer, the composers give insights into their work and the reality of their artistic lives. Extensive color photographs, taken by the Colombian photographer Camo Delgado in the Andean highlands around Bogotá, illustrate the album."Voces, señales" will be my first solo CD, so it's important that it documents a part of my work that means a lot to me.

The target group are
people who are curious about current musical trends, even beyond our European perspective
convinced avant-garde fans and those who want to become one
accordion lovers
listeners who appreciate both instrumental and electroacoustic music
people who are interested in South America, its culture and history
people who appreciate artistic positions beyond the mainstream

Why would you support this project?

By supporting this project you help to ensure that the recordings can be released with a renowned label for classical/contemporary music (GENUIN). The visibility this creates for me as a performer and for the composers involved is incredibly important for our work. I have been working for years to realize musical projects that go beyond the borders of Europe and thus contribute to the diversity of the contemporary music scene and to global artistic cohesion. It is my heartfelt desire to make this music accessible on a CD, but I cannot handle the publication cost on my own.
You will receive 63 minutes of exciting music that was composed, performed and produced at the highest level and deserves to be released in the best way. Thank you very much!

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The money raised on Startnext will be used for the manufacture of the CD, the graphic design, the editing/translation of the booklet texts, the GEMA fee and other costs arising from the label release.

Who are the people behind the project?

I am a freelance accordionist and as a contemporary music specialist I travel the world exploring my instrument in a wide variety of contexts and cultures. I studied classical accordion, but already at an early age became interested in in the exciting perpectives that contemporary music has to offer. Collaboration with composers of my generation is an important part of my work, and I am particularly interested in artistic positions beyond Europe. I am based in Germany, in the Westerwald, a beautiful region between Frankfurt and Cologne. When I am not traveling with my accordion, I organize unconventional and adventurous cultural formats in rural areas.
