Crowdfunding since 2010

Chasing Currents is a documentary movie about an adventurer and her 1090KM bikerafting tour along an entire river Elbe, from source to sea.

Annie is back at it with her next Great Bad Idea: bikerafting 1090km on the river Elbe! And not just from one side of the river to the other, but from the source in the Czech Republic all the way to the sea. And our film team is along.

What is this project all about?

After cycling 3000 km to the Nordkapp solo, running a 1000 km self-supported ultramarathon through Germany, Annie has a new Great Bad Idea: a 1090km long bike rafting tour on the Elbe, from the source to the sea. She will not only make a statement and also overcome her limits!

Annie's style is unique: she doesn't care about being fast and effective, she takes the time she needs for her expedition. And the aspect of sustainable adventure is incredibly important to her: she shares the equipment she needs with other athletes and tries to keep her carbon footprint as low as possible during her trips.

We, the film team, would also like to embark on this adventure and involve ourselves in Annie's world. With a small team, we are documenting Annie's outdoor expedition on the Elbe. The shooting for “Chasing Currents” already began in March in Berlin. Until the end of the year, we will accompany Annie in her everyday life, as the film not only shows her expedition on the Elbe, but also the many facets of a young woman in today's society, who, through social media, tries to develop understanding for each other and build and map the world around us.

Annie deserves to be given a voice. She is going through an inner conflict that affects many people today. What does it mean to dedicate yourself to such a goal and to stand up against so many prejudices, roles, clichés and opinions? Where are the limits and how do we all deal with them when we come up against limits? The endless river, the Elbe, is a symbol for life. The Elbe stands for the borders of the world powers and the precious nature that seems to elude us more and more.

From the very first days, Annie allowed us a unique closeness. This closeness turned into trust and intimacy; Two necessary things to tell an honest story well.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

When Annie asked us if we would like to create a film about her expedition, we replied: "Sure, but we're not making a video - we're producing a film!"
Currently we're financing the shoot from our own wallets and pockets. But we’re doing that (hopefully only for now) because we are convinced of this film, and think you will be, too!

Our current expenses are for:

  • Camera and sound equipment
  • Motorboat
  • cargo bike
  • Vans
  • Outdoor equipment for the film crew
  • Feeding a film crew of 4 people over a timeframe of 25 days

Should we reach the goal and overshoot the limit, we will invest the money in paying everyone: everything that is donated over €10,000 goes 100% to the film crew!

Ourgoal is to produce a documentary film that breaks with the stylistic means of documentary films as we know it through artistic narrative forms and structures. We also aim to work ecologically, socially and with purpose, and we will observe and implement this in all areas of production. This means that we are careful with our resources, fellow human beings and borders. Respect for the environment is a mandatory part of production and we will therefore comply with Green Production guidelines.

What does this mean for us?

  • Climate-friendly = few emissions, sustainable use of resources, little interference with nature
  • Purposeful = process-oriented and needs-based work, space for communication, emotions and a positive error culture, time for individual creativity and development, fair and sustainable working hours
  • and of course passion for what we do!

With "Chasing Currents" we want to reach young people interested in sports and the outdoors, and documentary film lovers - and of course, anyone and everyone else who would like to be part of Annie's adventure.

Why would you support this project?

We trust YOU, that our passion will be seen and valued. As if producing a film wasn't adventure enough, we also dedicate ourselves to producing in a climate-friendly, and meaningful manner. Therefore, we would like to remain independent of the big TV and film money pots.

And of course, we’re obviously going to develop a great and exciting film!

That's exactly why the whole thing is only possible with your help! Together we can create this new way of film work. If you want to join us on our adventure and are as excited about the result as we are, then become part of our crowd and support us!

  • Your karma has increased and we are grateful in our hearts for your support!

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
