goes eigenarten - Festival

What do we, as contemporary dancers, want to work on, in an urban, cross-cultural, digitized and overexcited world like ours? As CONTRAHERA COLLECTIVE, in the play "untitled / no.2" we embrace our bodies in order to approach the culture of standardized aesthetics and try to shake it up. We claim the right to understand the body as a complex miracle and use the skin as a starting point for our research.

What is this project all about?

We all have it: the skin. It is the biggest organ of the body. It is a vulnerable, permeable border, that separates us from the world outside. It is the mirror of our inside and at the same time a screen for projections by the eyes of others.

All these aspects, that skin unites in itself, are our departure point for the research about how we move and how we want to move in the contemporary society. By practicing collective work, that is based on curiosity and trust, by approaching the topic as dancers with the intelligence of our body, we set a counterpoint to the capitalistic, digital world.

We hope, that also you believe in us and enable us with your donation to dive deep into a creation process, that might change slightly the face of the world.

The shows will be at the 26. & 27. of October in Goldbekhaus Hamburg.

We will also try to show the piece in different cities. Stay tuned!

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

We believe in the importance of daring to create a counter model to the world, where everything seems to be about optimizing and being more efficient. Which means, daring to research through art, what it is that makes us human. Against all doubts about the usability and financial difficulties.

We believe that dance can function as a means of overcoming fears and prejudices and that it is opening a space in which it is possible to return to oneself and which is accessible to everyone.

Why would you support this project?

Hamburg is well known for its musicals. But also aside the big stages there is happening a lot in the cultural scene, that is definetly worth having a look at.

The intercultural festival eigenarten, which is the frame in which we want to present our piece, is a non-profit event, providing a platform for cultural exchange, which we appreciate and support.

But in the production for an evening filling piece occur costs that we, as a young group at the beginning of our career, cannot deal with alone.

As trained dancers we want to live from our job, and because of the fact, that we are at the beginning of our careers, it is really important for us, to get as much professional experience as possible.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

With the successful financing we will get the possibility to realize our project untitled/nr.2 with the necessary intensity and rigor.

With your support we can cover the costs of travel, accommodation, materials and rehearsal spaces. But above all you give us the gift of time!
Time to dig deep into the creation process.

Who are the people behind the project?

Contrahera Collective are six dancers from Germany, Italy, Sweden and Serbia, that met during their education at the Contemporary Dance School Hamburg, where we started to get to know and to love each other.

The base of their work is the interest in a dancing, explorative approach to problems or questions, that often deal with the perception and reaction of the body to its environment.
They were always fascinated by working as a collective, which they used as their main theme in their first piece for me the whole room was a goatfarm in 2016.

A big thank you goes to Contemporary Dance School Hamburg, K3 - Tanzplan Hamburg and Eschenhof Projekt, which all supported us with rehearsal spaces.

Also special thanks to Torben Reimer, who supported us through filming and editing the video for our crowdfunding campaign.
