In “Crappy Christmas: Yuletide – Suicide,” protagonist Kid makes several (unsuccessful) suicide attempts, leaving a trail of destruction on himself and his enviroment.
Finally, Kid puts all his hope in a letter to Santa.
As in the previous film "Crappy Christmas - Operation Christmas Child", the film breaks with the viewing habits of mainstream cinema by contrasting the rather cute clay animation look, which the viewer still primarily associates with children's programs or family-friendly entertainment cinema, with mostly taboo topics.
The claymation films of the Crappy Christmas series (from 2019) are uncomfortable, controversial and transgressive. They are intended to stimulate thought and discussion and help keep the respective topics in circulation.
After the film is completed, it will be submitted to international festivals. The film is aimed at an adult genre film audience.
Clay animation is extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive. At the same time, there are hardly any opportunities to exploit a short film commercially, especially if it is not aimed at children and a mass audience. Even public film funding budgets, if you get them, are not designed for animated films and can only cover a small part of the costs. We were able to prepare our project through three scholarships from the Hessian Cultural Foundation and the VG Bildkunst Cultural Works Foundation. We plan to start the next phase of the project shortly: filming.
In order to complete our film in a timely manner and achieve the desired scope and quality, we need the support of people who love animated films and want to support independent, non-commercial films and off-mainstream cinema.
Call to Action Video with some Info about the development of the Project
STARTING LEVEL: (2.000€)
This amount helps us to cover the expenses during filming (material costs, electricity costs, catering and travel costs for helpers, etc.) and to complete the film in a basic version. To do this we will have to shorten the original script by a few scenes.
LEVEL 2: (€3.000) ADDITIONAL CHARACTER AND SCENES
We hire a make-up artist to provide protagonist KID with a best friend: Collie "Jassie". The dogs fur will be created by punching single hairs into the doll's body by hand. We are going to add new scenes with "Jassie" to the film.
LEVEL 3: (4.000€) HANDMADE SOUND
We hire a professional foley artist to get the right sound for our images.
LEVEL 4: (6.000€) PROFESSIONAL VOICE ACTORS
We cast professional Voice Actors and book a recording studio for dialogue recording sessions.
LEVEL 5: (€8.000€) 2nd ANIMATOR
We hire a 2nd Animator so we can shoot the film quicker and reduce the time for filming from 8 down to 5 months.
if we reach this LEVEL every backer will get a free Sticker set ! Designs will be chosen by the comunity
LEVEL 6: (10.000€) FESTIVAL BUDGET
Festival submissions fees can range up to 50€ or more for a short film in the USA and other countries.
With a festival budget of 2.000€ we can submit the film to international festivals.
LEVEL 7: (15.000€) EXTENDED VERSION
With this budget we can shoot the extended version of Yuletide Suicide for you and add a 2nd SUPERTWIST ath the end of the film !
LEVEL 8: MERRY CHRISTMAS
If we reach more than 15.000€ , the extra budget will go to everyone involved who worked without or with minimal payment on the project. Unfortunately independent stop-motion film projects like ours can only be produced with a lot of blood, sweat and tears...
