Europe spirals deeper and deeper into the crisis..., but don't worry: in the board game €uro Crisis YOU are the bank manager, who gambles with money of the European Central Bank and grabs as many privatisations as possible. Convince politicians that their countries need harsh austerity programmes in order to avoid debt cuts and inflame the population against your rivals. Take care of Europe only when it is good for the well-being of your bank!

What is this project all about?

We are five friends, who love boardgames. After three years of designing and testing we are ready to produce our own board game. €uro Crisis is a satirical board game about the economic and political development in Europe.

3-4 players take the roles of banks and try to enrich themselves during three virtual years (60-120 minutes) at the expense of the struggling European countries.

Each year is divided into four quarters and event phases. In each quarter, all players choose their action simultaneously and secretly. To avoid bad surprises, it is important to keep the other players’ plans in mind.

In the event phases, public anger rises, recessions threaten the economy and only at the end of a year the players get new money.
During the whole game, Europe spirals deeper and deeper into the crisis and players have to watch out that they don’t become the next victim of the crisis.
The player who has gained most points through privatisations wins the game.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

The goal of the Doppeldenk-Spiele team is to present €uro Crisis to a broader public: It is a fun to play game with an interesting topic and fascinating mechanics. €uro Crisis is for folks who enjoy board games and a more satirical view on the finance crisis.

But the game is no sweeping criticism of banks, the EU or even single states. To the contrary, we believe that the European Union as well as the Euro are great achievements for a peaceful Europe, which is worth to support and develop further. Thus we hope, that €uro Crisis is not only an entertaining game, but will also encourage reflection about existing problems and possible solutions.

However, we strongly suggest not to apply any learned strategies from the game to real life.

Why would you support this project?

With your support we can produce the game €uro Crisis and make it accessible to a broad public. As backer you will have the opportunity to directly get a copy of the game, to share, give it as present to others or simply make it possible to enrich the board game landscape for all people who love board games as we do.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The funding will allow us to produce a minimum run of 500 copies. Furthermore we would love to be at Essen '15 with our own stand and to develop more crisis states for the game.

Who are the people behind the project?

Behind the project are 5 friends who know each other since school and university. Today we live in different regions in Germany, study at the PhD level, perform surgery or make a living otherwise. €uro Crisis is our first game that we publish under the name of „Doppeldenk-Spiele“.
