What is this project all about?

“Darune Man” (Farsi for “Within Me”) is our Bachelor film of the Hochschule Darmstadt. It tells the story of Nazanin, an Iranian trans* woman who is still in the closet and is torn
between the conservative principles of her homeland and the western freedom. Not long ago Nazanin moved with her family to Berlin to work at an iranian law firm. There she begins to question the years of secrecy about her gender identity. In addition, her daughter Mahta is suspicion that an affair could be behind Nazanin’s unusual behavior drives her further into a
corner. “Darune Man” is about self acceptance and the desire for freedom.

Our story is based on true events that Iranian and German trans* women and men have entrusted us in conversations.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

Our goal is to increase the visibility of trans* women and men. With this we want to contribute to reducing discrimination against trans* people. In many cultures, including Iran, being trans* is unthinkable due to culture and conservative traditions. This can lead to trans* people being transphobic themselves. With our film we want to inspire acceptance, openness and self-love.

Why would you support this project?

For us, the project is a very personal, as our origins and experiences are also reflected in the content of the film. Strengthening the self-confidence of trans* people who have had similar experiences as Nazanin is our greatest motivation.

With your support, we can achieve the goal of our film and contribute to a more diverse, more tolerant society.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

"Darune Man" comes to life. The money mainly goes to travel expenses, accommodation, catering, equipment, costumes, props and film locations.

All crew members work voluntarily on this project. As a result, 100% of the money raised will be used for the creation of the film.

Who are the people behind the project?

We are film students at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Khashayar Khalili (screenplay & director), Lara Lipponer (screenplay), Gabor Baumgarten (camera) and Lukas Hauf (producer). Khashayar & Gabor are doing their Bachelor with the project. We are also supported by many other Motion Pictures students and alumni.
