We are ethically concerned about Digital Profiling. Personal Digital Profiles are compiled as a result of all your web, mobile, shopping, banking and movement activities, and they are not always pleasant. All German adults are digitally profiled, over 70 million of us, and we believe you have a right to know yours. We at Your Digital Self have developed an ethically sustainable platform to enable this, and we want to share 79 points of your profile with you personally.

What is this project all about?

The team at Your Digital Self are focused on developing alternatives to current data driven economies, but what we are mostly concerned about today is the industrial profiling of our personal data.

Are you concerned about how you are profiled by large marketing companies? We at Your Digital Self are and we’ve been researching this arena for 2 years now. Every online digital activity today results in users being profiled as consumers, that is, being categorised and labelled sometimes harshly, sometimes correctly, sometimes wrongly. We believe this to be sometimes helpful for buying experiences, but also harmful and possibly unethical.

Therefore, we want to provide you the user, the results of our research into your personal digital profile as held by the biggest marketing companies in Germany. Your Digital Self is driving towards a more sustainable and ethical balance of having a digital (smooth) online experience versus how much personalised data one should give up.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

As consumers we are normally unable to “look” into these commercial databanks, but in Germany we have found a way.

We have developed a platform that allows us to pull this data and send it to you. Whether you are a digital expert or a complete newcomer, everyone is profiled. If you are over 18, registered in Germany, have a mobile phone with a minimum 20 apps have likely a minimum of 5 online logins - you have been profiled by one or other major data hoarders

Why would you support this project?

Firstly, it is fascinating and sometimes shocking to see how you have bene profiled.

Secondly, we remember time before “online” and we believe a restructuring of the relationship between consumption and providing marketing companies your data for free needs to change, if nothing for the next generations.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

So far we have developed this platform within our small team, but we require funding to do the last little further technical developments, secure servers in Germany and to physically launch the requests and send them out.

Further we will be launching an PR campaign to address GDPR legislation to make it more secure, functional, and moreover accessible to everyone.

Who are the people behind the project?

A mixture of long term friends and colleagues, Michiel, David, Vivien, Catherine, Michael, Benoit, Jan-Henrik, und Lee; we are the Team from Your Digital Self based in Berlin, Germany. We are management, technical, online development, marketing, legal and basically excited to be launching this amazing and insightful project to you.
