Drejs Quintet - Dunkelgold

The record ‚Dunkelgold‘ is the debut album of my band ‚Drejs Quintet‘.

Our music ranges between Jazz, Hip-Hop and Trip-Hop. After several years of work on the compositions, I’m incredibly happy to record my first album with Simon Quinn (contrabass, synthesizer), Hanno Stick (drums), Johanna Bernard (violin, Clavinet) and Max Klaas (percussion) at one of Berlin’s best analogue studios.
At the moment I’m a master’s student (European Jazz Master) at the conservatories of Berlin, Paris and Copenhagen. Before I’ll start my first term abroad, I really want to close the chapter ‘Dunkelgold’.

‚Dunkelgold‘ is the title of both the album and one of my compositions. It developed on the piano and when it came to the naming, the pretty writing on the piano caught my eye. The expression ‘Dunkelgold’ was born. A shade, that perfectly matches the atmosphere of the title and the entire record.
For me the combination of high-class musicians with various backgrounds is very fascinating. Every last is defining for the groove and vibe of the music and a huge enrichment for the compositions. Once before a big thank-you to all the contributing musicians! You are the best!
The album is going to be recorded at the ‚Trixx‘ Studio Berlin, a high-quality and well-known analogue studio which is able to perfectly depict the full tonal range between a Jazz quintet and an experimental rock band. References of the studio range from Jazz musicians such as Aki Takese, Alexander von Schlippenbach and Rudi Mahall, hip-hop artists like Grandmaster Flash, Afrob and Lil Kim to the hard-core rock band Rammstein.
Between the 24th and the 28th January 2017, our record release tour to Dresden, Leipzig, Halle and Berlin is waiting to be dealt with. In the meantime ‘Dunkelgold’ will be published digitally and as a CD-version.
The printing company ‚Mengershausen Editionen‘ is supporting me with several prints of my photographic work of the series ‘im Eis’. They are experienced specialists and already worked with famous artists and galleries. Personally, I’m just as excited for the visual results as for the record itself.
Depending on how much you are willing to contribute, you can pick up the images in different combinations with and without the CD in return.

The goal is to create a top-quality sound and publish an awesome record. Music, that leads the people to nod their heads along its groove, inspires their minds and fills their hearts with love.
Music, that works as well for the Fusion Festival as for the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Music, that addresses the people who like to listen close without being subjected to intellectual overextension.

Music is made by humans for humans.
It’s important that the music will be received appropriately and that it is going to be available for as many people as possible.
Just as all my co-musicians, I’m working intensively and for long times on my musical skills. With this ensemble I created a thrilling band and our sound needs to be brought into the world.

Records of high quality, the mastering and design etc. cost money. To me it is important to be able to indemnify everybody who joined me in working on this project. With the crowd funding money I can finance most of the expenses but would still pay some items with my own money. Covered would be the following costs:

Payment Master Studio
Musician’s allowances and traveling costs
Expenses graphic design
Expenses filming and photographic work
Allowances for organisational help
In case your support exceeds the minimum sum, the excessive money will pour into the record release tour and the musicians.
