Mila looks into a mirror. A woman with young skin but an old look. Her hair is disheveled and she is wearing an oversized parka. She spent the last two years in a psychiatry. After her release, she is now trying to start a new beginning as a free journalist.
The only one who seems to understand her is Jonathan, Milas best friend. He comes to visit her after the release and won’t step aside. When Mila is starting to work on a new article, Jonathan barges more and more into her life. She begins to spend more time with him instead of focusing on her work. With Jonathans support Mila starts to enjoy life again. After a wild night with the attractive woman from the bakery next door, everything seems to be perfect.
„Too good to be true?“
Mila starts to doubt it all and begins to fear the worst. Her life is running out of focus and her cognition is questioned. Mila is not only about to loose her best friend.
The Film „Ein Anderer“ is a project that comes from the heart and that we’d all die for to be realized. Especially for director Julia Schubeius the film has a special meaning and would be a dream come true! The film is based on a novel written by her older sister Lisa Schubeius.
Stories are moving people, infuence their views on life and even can change a persons point of view on a certain topic. Movies have a responsibility! We don’t want to make a blockbuster-action film. Our goal is to stand up for the acceptance of people who feel „different“.
We want to reach people who are not simply watching movies. We want to reach people who like to think about what they are watching, who can be inspired by the way we want to tell our story.
You should support our project because...
1 ... you don’t just support any kind of artistic implementation. It is a political and social decision, because we stand up for the equalization of men and women in the film industry.
2 ...you speak out for tolerance. Our film is about homosexuality and the acceptance of any kind of sexual orientation. Very up-to-date as in politics and society.
3 ...you get involved in a production that is full of young and talented filmmakers that
share a passion and vision for what they are doing.
4 ...there are some nice „thank you“-goods waiting for you!
Half of the budget is going to be put into the production design and set decoration. More than half of the film is going to take place in the protagonists apartment. In order to save money, we don’t want to rent an apartment but rebuild it completely inside of the film studio of our University. There we can work without any outside influences. We have enough space for all the technique and spotlights as well as room for costume design, make up department, restrooms, relaxing areas and a kitchen to make a good catering. That’s what we need the other half for! We’re going to work from 8 hours up to 14 hours a day. The most important thing on such intensive shooting days is that none of our crew members are hungry or thirsty.
A wisdom from 4 years of film-studying:
"A good catering is half of what you need to have a successful shoot!"
Most important, next to Julia (director), Christoph (cinematographer), Arno (sound) and Carina (producer), is Lisa Schubeius. In 2013 she wrote the novel that „Ein Anderer“ is based on.
Also part of the main-team: David Kade. He is the production assistant and studies at the ifs-Köln. David is taking care of all the financing that a production like this needs.
Mira Laczkowski and Michael Rams are in charge of the production design and set decoration. They are involved in the project since the beginning. Both are studying scenography at our University.
Also important for the team is Wassil Damjanov from the Folkwang University of Arts. He is studying electronical composition and is going to compose a score for the finished product. Wassil has already been involved a film-project from our university.
We are also very proud to present you the actors who will bring Mila and Jonathan to life: Merle Wasmuth and Ronny Miersch. We are already working closely together with both of them and they are very excited to be part of the project.
