School garden and school kitchen of the Evangelische Grundschule Halle (Protestant Primary School)

We think: School must adapt to the respective child, not the other way around. Where children are supported in a differentiated way and feel taken seriously, they show above-average performance. This includes a sustainable lifestyle and healthy nutrition as well as the appreciation of diverse personalities. And where healthy eating is practised, the foundation for a healthy life is laid.

What is this project all about?

Since its foundation in 2014, the Halle Protestant Primary School has been growing steadily and the building is no longer sufficient for the target number of pupils. Therefore, a new building is now being constructed! In times of exploding construction costs, this is a challenge for an independent school. That is why we need your help to support part of the new building!

Help us to make our school a place of sustainable living and learning: because at the new location there will be a school kitchen that will bring healthy food fresh to the table. And it will also come from our own school garden.
School garden lessons are a firmly integrated subject in our curriculum, taught in German and English. Working in the school garden provides children with important learning experiences, namely that it takes time and knowledge to grow and harvest plants. Knowing which vegetables are available when and how to prepare them oneself not only leads to more appreciation of our food, but is also the basis for a healthy diet.

The aim of the project is to equip the school with a school kitchen as well as a school garden as part of the new building. The kitchen for "on-site preparation" makes it possible to offer children vitamin-rich, fresh food on a regular basis. This also applies to a healthy common breakfast. The kitchen will be available to the school classes during lessons, afternoon and holiday activities. Vegetables grown by the children themselves from the school garden will be used. For this purpose, a partnership with "Kindgerechte Ernährungsbildung e.V." () is planned.

About 200,000 euros are needed for the child-oriented nutrition education programme LEARNING TO EAT HEALTHY. Of this amount, 50,000 Euros will be spent on a large school garden and about 150,000 Euros on a school kitchen, further planting and equipment as well as coaching staff for nutrition education. Please help us to raise at least 50,000 euros - and more if you wish!

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

Our goal is to anchor sustainability as a topic in school, but not (only) as "learning material", but in the form of lived everyday experience. Everyone who wants to get involved in sustainable, child-friendly nutrition education is invited to help: whether parents, grandparents, godparents and friends, or companies, organisations and associations.

Why would you support this project?

No two children learn the same way, so why should schools all be the same? The Halle Protestant Primary School is a contribution to a diverse school landscape. If we want to take every child with us and give them equal opportunities in education, we need differentiated and inclusive teaching and the conviction that every child can do something. And we need role models - lived community, lived diversity and lived sustainability.

Please help us to continue on the path we have successfully started and to make good schools. Your help will benefit generations of children. Help us to rebuild our school garden and the school kitchen and to establish a sustainable educational concept on healthy nutrition!

By the way: The new school site is located on the Weinberg Campus, the second largest technology and research park in the new German states, and only 2.5 km from the city centre. A plus point for networking with future topics.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The support will go directly towards the construction of the school kitchen and the school garden.
Specifically, at least 50,000 euros are needed for the construction of the school garden (soil replacement, bed edging, paving, shrubs, trees and edging, cistern, raised beds, seat trunks, tool shed).
Around 150,000 euros are needed to equip the school kitchen and coach staff.

Construction has already begun in May 2021 (see for yourself on site or at . For the school year 2023/24, the Halle Protestant Primary School will move out of the existing building and into the new building.

Who are the people behind the project?

A special feature of the Evangelische Grundschule Halle is that it was initiated by parents. We have joined forces in the non-profit association Evangelischer Schulförderverein Halle e.V. and hope that good ideas will set a precedent. You can find out more about the development of our school and the activities of the school support association at .

The Evangelische Grundschule Halle is run by Evangelische Schulstifung in Mitteldeutschland. It runs 21 schools, each with a specific focus. What they have in common is that children are made strong for a self-reliant life in a rapidly changing world. You can find more information about the school foundation at .

The staff of the Evangelische Grundschule Halle consists of teachers and educators with a passion. With a lot of empathy, commitment and expertise, they dedicate themselves to the children, the families and the school community. To visit the homepage of our Protestant Primary School, click here: .

Why does this project contribute to this goal?
