Well-known Cologne violin consort Exquisite Noyse brings to life music of the Renaissance in a very special way. Playing on early versions of instruments of the violin family and a Renaissance triple harp, we are recording a CD of music from the early 16th century (ca. 1520) that explores the diverse and colorful musical world into which the violin was born.
Our choice of repertoire, instruments, and playing techniques conjure an image of the violin as a new technology in a world undergoing radical musical change. In this music, the violin’s earliest voice—vibrant, seductive, fresh, and unfettered by later conventions—leaps off the strings and across the centuries to new ears and new discovery.
Finally, music lovers will be able to experience the music that ushered in the extraordinary and versatile violin—anonymous dances, arrangements and improvisations on standards of the time, instrumental renditions of vocal works including the beautiful and haunting madrigals, chansons and motets by Arcadelt, Janequin, Josquin and Verdelot.
This is an ambitious undertaking, and producing this transcendent music with the quality and care that the music demands is expensive. We seek 5,000 Euro, and ask for your help in reaching our goal.
This is truly music for everyone: lovers of classical music, early music specialists and enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever fallen under the spell of a plaintive fiddle tune. Indeed, our bow is aimed straight at the heart of every music lover who seeks something new, something original, and something illuminating and beautiful.
Freeing the violin from the fetters of convention and the dust of the centuries, we cast light on its mysterious beginnings and reawaken the power in its native voice.
Our goal is not only to share the music, but also the creative and fascinating joy of discovering new sounds together.
Performing on instruments of the violin family and a Renaissance triple harp, Exquisite Noyse gives life to a pivotal and important musical repertoire. Your support ensures that this beautiful and unusual music from outside the mainstream reaches a wider audience.
Due to the revolutionary developments in instrument making and in musical language, Renaissance musicians and composers had an unforeseen palette of expression at their disposal. In this fertile and creative climate, they created an incomparable wealth of music, which survives to this day, and Exquisite Noyse is dedicated to keeping it healthy, thriving, and alive.
The members of Exquisite Noyse have played and perfected the sounds and songs on this recording over years of live performances in venues across Europe. And it is this experience—the thrill of living music—that we hope to capture on this important recording.
Proudly independent, Exquisite Noyse is minimally subsidized. We need your support to realize this project. To express our thanks once the project has been successfully financed, we will give a concert in the summer of 2015 in Koeln for our supporters.
