The basic funding goal will help us with our petty expenses and other costs that arise during rehearsals.
“I stare at grey,” she says glumly; 12 hours a day, seven days a week. Repurposed to flying remote-controlled drones in the Middle East from an air-conditioned trailer near Vegas, the Pilot struggles through surreal twelve-hour shifts far from the battlefield, hunting terrorists by day and being a wife and mother by night. The play delivers a ferocious climax, as the pilot’s state of mind unravels. A tour de force play for one actress, Grounded flies from the heights of lyricism to the shallows of workaday existence, targeting our assumptions about war, family, and the power of storytelling.
Globally, Grounded has attracted a great deal of attention because it is one of the earliest theatrical explorations of this unnerving new form of war: drones.
Grounded balances the seriousness of war and PTSD with humor, using a dry sense of comedy.
The play’s protagonist is an unusual figure at the center: an American combat pilot, a woman who strongly identifies herself with her military task. She has the “license to kill” and the conviction to dispose of people whom the USAF has defined as “Guilty.”
Thanks to the support of our local creative community, I was able to slowly grown my audience here in Germany. My long-term goal is to establish a professional English-language repertory company in this historic German city with its continuously growing international community.
Highly popular among tourists, Bremen attracts visitors from all over the globe and it is my ambition to offer them a high quality stage experience that will give a completely new meaning to the term "off Boradway"
And thanks to a very fruitful collaboration with the multiple award-winning bremer shakespeare company, my humble project has found a home in the city's second largest theatre.
If you are a fan of contemporary theatre and care about current affairs, supporting "Grounded" will be a must for you.
Whether you area native of Germany who loves English-speaking cultures or an American abroad, our production will get you talking.
We will pay a small allowance to the members of our little team, in order to cover the costs over the course of this production.
We will also invest a little bit in costumes and props, as well as advertising.
I am American actress and director who has lived in Bremen for four years. I am currently pursuing the goal of establishing a professional English Theater in Bremen. My most recent production "Midsummer" will have a limited additional run in Prague and come November, I am hopefully starting to rehearse with the wonderful German director:
Markus Herlyn is director and acting teacher. His work is inspired by his long-standing education with famous teachers and masters, mostly coming from Russia and their methodically structured artistic approach.
