Our garments are produced in the small textile manufacture Solar on the island of Bali. The pieces are produced manually and in small number. All textiles used are from sustainable farming.
Our favourite fabric is out of bamboo. Bamboo grows up to one meter a day which makes it the fastest growing plant worldwide. Did you know? Bamboo can absorb five times as much greenhouse gas as any other plant and produces 35% more oxygen. What is more, the fabric feels soft and light on your skin. Due to its structure of loosely woven fibres, bamboo absorbs moisture thoroughly and fast. This, and the better transport of heat to the outside, guaranty the bacteriostatic quality of the fabric. Your skin will stay dry and cool for a long time, even in the hot season. In addition, bamboo doesn’t need pesticides or fertiliser, which makes it hypoallergenic and organic. It doesn’t just feel good on your skin, it even feels good in our minds.
The individual patterns of the batik work render each piece of clothing unique. On the island of Bali, handicraft plays a major role. Complex symbolic meanings are attributed to the colourful patterns of batik work. By wearing batik art one can express an attitude or point out social status. A quarter of a century ago, almost every woman on the island knew how to do batik. Today, this textile tradition is vanishing. Factory-produced fabrics have almost completely replaced the handcrafted works of art as they’re much cheaper. We want the tradition to stay alive! For the people in Bali, the batik tradition is vital, it’s part of their culture. Clothes decorated with batik work are pieces of art and render our Feuervogel-pieces unique.
Become aware of the uniqueness of all beings, let your mind spread wings and your heart burn - create your own space, become Feuervögel!
In the past two years, we have tried to establish our fashion label Feuervogel. But without your help, our range is very limited. That’s why we are doing this crowdfunding-campaign. We want to leave a visible footprint.
We want to inspire you with our fashion, we want to encourage you to believe in dreams and make them come true. We want to animate you to take responsibility for your actions.
It’s our aim to establish a reliable fashion label which stands for a respectful treatment of the environment. Feuervogel combines traditional knowledge with new forms. With this combination we want to aid the environment and the people who live in it - in our modest way. Our products are aimed at people who live their lives consciously, people who let themselves be enchanted by colours and patterns and want to contribute to sustain nature.
You, the crowd, could enable us to launch a fashion collection which looks and feels great. Our Feuervogel shirts feel soft on your skin and let your pores breathe. By supporting us, you and the people who produce our clothes gain more freedom of action. At the same time you should be aware that our fashion is produced environmentally friendly.
1. With our fashion collection we are supporting a small family business. Our aim is to prevent the textile manufacture SOLAR from closing down for good. With the help of Feuervogel, 25 employees will be able to keep their jobs and another 15 will find new jobs in the family business.
2. By using bamboo rayon, we’re promoting a textile which comes from sustainable cultivation.
3. All batik work on our products is done by hand. We want to contribute to keeping the traditional Indonesian dyeing technique alive and make sure it won’t be taken over by the production in factories.
First of all, we want to realise our new Feuervogel-collection. This means a lot of work for us, the designers in Berlin, and for all who are part of our project: 15 sewers, one pattern draftsman and three tailors of the Balinese manufacture CV SOLAR. What is more, five screen printers and eight batik-artists, also based in Bali. We plan to be finished by the end of March 2015 and we are looking forward to working on our goals.
On our homepage we like to present our fashion collection as well as the production chain. As transparency is part of our concept, we want you to gain insight into the production processes. What is more, we want to spread the knowledge of the Indonesian batik art as a cultural heritage.
In case of overfinancing, we will pay you back by launching a release party: a fashion show, a batik-workshop - accompanied by music and
Indonesian delicacies. All this could be realised in the rooms of the non- profit association “Lockdock”.
Feuervogel are, first of all, Carsten and Farida Wolf, who devotedly supervise our production in Bali. Secondly there are my two best friends, Jonas and Parinya, who have been standing by my side since the start. And there’s me, Raphael.
Since my dad emigrated to Bali in the 90s, I had the chance to get to know and to love the island and its warmhearted culture. By now it feels like a second home for me. The Balinese craftsmanship has always fascinated me but now the art of batik seems to vanish from everyday life on the island. Two years ago, I had the idea to found a fashion label which works with batik-art and thus might even prevent it from dying out. My aim was to create a fashion label which combines the two wolds in which I feel at home: Berlin and Bali. This is how Feuervogel was born.
