Crowdfunding since 2010

Creating something together unifies. So does food. Therefore cooking together is an ideal way of bridging the gap between cultures.

With our pilot project “KochKultur" ("CookingCulture"/"Culture of Cooking") we offer a unique, yet casual opportunity to get connected with foreign cultures: through food! We are available for interactive cooking sessions at your home, for private parties / functions in/around Weinheim (Germany). Ultimately we hope that KochKultur will help in creating mutual understanding and respect between locals and refugees as basis for a peaceful coexistence, not just here but all over the world.

What is this project all about?

Our concept is based on teams of one or two refugees (non-professional cooks) from different nations and a German for cross cultural bridge-building. Teams are available for rent-a-cook services for an interactive cooking session (kitchen party) at your home or for private parties / functions in or around Weinheim. Either way, you will be introduced to the tasty side of the exotic heritage of these foreign cultures.
By inviting “the world” into your home, you will not only treat yourself to delicious international menus and discover new cultures, but you will also support us in creating job opportunities, language acquisition, as well as our regional economy.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

Our goal is the integration of refugees and bridging the gap between them and locals all over the world and we are starting at home, in Germany.
Ultimately we hope that KochKultur will help in creating mutual understanding and respect as basis for a peaceful coexistence, following the concept of "open doors - open hearts"!
With this project we address all talented refugee cooks, who want to find a place in our society, irrespective of their education, gender and nationality. On the other hand we address anybody and everybody who wants to make a positive impact on the new situation that our local societies are exposed to as a result of the global refugee situation.

Why would you support this project?

Our project brings hope, curiosity, and perspective where before there was mainly frustration and fear. You too can be part of it from wherever you are by supporting it here! Together we can create a ripple effect in our society.
For all the bad that is happening in the world, put a little good on the other side of the scale! Help these amazing cooks to open minds, to change prejudices, and create curiosity instead of fear. You could be the change you want to see in the world!

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

This pilot project was realized through a funding by the government of our State Baden-Wuerttemberg. During this phase we experienced just how powerful our concept is and we therefore want to create a solid basis to make it sustainable. And naturally that requires money. Examples where funds are needed:

  • Insurance
  • Rent for the kitchen
  • Tax advisor / lawyer
  • Health certificates for the cooks
  • Workwear
  • Equipment
  • Ingredients
  • Teacher & material for accompanying German classes

Should your generous support generate donations exceeding the funds needed for the above basic elements, this extra fund will be put towards having our own kitchen, maybe even a kitchen container!!
Having our own kitchen will help maximize the concept: we can extend the reach to a much bigger crowd, additionally host cultural events, ultimately leading to much wider impact on society!
