This allows us to pay our sound engineer fairly and cover the costs of room, travel and CD fabrication.
For four and a half years we have been playing balfolk music as Maracu. Not only in our hometown Leipzig, but all over Germany and occasionally in other European countries we can be heard at dance festivals, bals and other festivities.
In our arrangements Folk mixed with Klezmer and Jazz give the dances sometimes an energetic, sometimes a dreamy touch. Especially our own pieces are now eagerly waiting to be recorded on CD.
Balfolk, by the way, is a mixture of European folk dances, often danced to live music. The various circle, couple and group dances invite easy participation and connection with people.
In our performances, we support an open and diverse dance culture, where everyone is allowed to be and dance as they are and want to be.
With our first CD we would like to dance our way on into the Balfolk world: to more distant stages (also outside Germany) and also from the stage to your homes.
So you can still remember a nice dance evening later on.
So you can give our music away to others.
And so the Balfolk joy can be carried on - in the most literal sense of the word. :-)
Our previous plans to record a live CD were unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. Besides, there were few gigs... = no savings = no CD?!
Not necessarily! With your support we can finally realize our plans and are now starting a freshly motivated run into the studio!
And in case a gig is cancelled again, you can still let yourself be moved digitally by our music. :)
With the money we can pay our sound engineer Robert Amarell fairly. It also covers the costs for room rental, the travel to the studio in Bad Dürrenberg (near Leipzig) and the CD fabrication.
MARACU are
Josefine Schlät: violin, glitter and initiator of spontaneous bursts of sound, dance and laughter
Matthias Glatthorn: guitar, charango, web design and crafty tinkering
Luzia Walsch: clarinet, flashlights and lively networking
Michael Kock: drums & percussion, packing master and picnic provider
Leo Zwiebel: double bass and really groovy photos (yep!)
Niklas Jakob: double bass and best buddy with Deutsche Bahn
SOUND ENGENEER
Robert Amarell: Recording director, mixing and the most relaxed enabler
The international dance and music culture of Balfolk represents an actively inclusive and peaceful community. With the CD and in performances, Maracu creates space for connection between different people on the dance floor. In doing so, we are also committed to breaking down gender stereotypes.
The CD is sold in a simple paper sleeve. Alternatively, the album can also be purchased digitally to further minimize its resource consumption.
Hallo!
