Imagine you walk into a bar and read on the menu: "Alcohol".
What effect will a glass of alcohol have on you? Without any information about the content of the alcohol, everything from a slight buzz to a coma is possible.
However, this is exactly the situation that currently exists worldwide for psychedelic substances.

We want to change this and provide a scientifically validated product in an uncontrolled and unsafe environment to increase awareness of concentration and composition and to avoid life-threatening situations.

To this end, we have developed innovative rapid tests to determine the concentration of the following substances:

• Psilocybin, the active ingredient in psychedelic mushrooms.
• LSD
• MDMA and others

Psychedelic substances are illegal in most countries. Substances that are contaminated, stretched with other active ingredients, or offered in lethal concentrations end up on the black market. For example, while 10 years ago pills with an average of 70 mg MDMA were in circulation, now dosages of over 300 mg can be found - For comparison: Already 120 mg can be fatal depending on body weight! Severe damage to health is the result.

Currently, there is simply no comparable test procedure. The existing rapid tests are too inaccurate and too interpretative. Drug checking (professional analysis) achieves valid results but is still in its infancy in Germany.

With our QTests, we want to change that and, together with our partners, raise awareness about a topic that has been taboo for far too long.

The potential of our work was also recognized by the BMWi, which supported us last year with the Exist-Gründerstipendium. This allowed us, as a project at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, to use the on-site laboratories to develop our tests. However, the funding ends in April 2021, when we will need our laboratory in which to produce our QTests. We have already found suitable premises, but now we are still lacking the equipment. Since we work with different chemicals, the installation of a fume hood with an exhaust air connection is essential.
