Das studentische Magazin des Department Design der HAW Hamburg

»nicht jetzt!« is the student magazine of the Department Design at HAW Hamburg. After five successful issues with interesting topics (like »share/split« and »more«) the sixth edition deals with the theme »in between«. For this purpose, illustrations, photo series and reportages are presented in a magazine with several layers in form of a Japanese binding.

What is this project all about?

IN BETWEEN – this is the topic of this year’s edition of the »nicht jetzt!« magazine. This may be a feeling, a living situation or a phase of life: will I get my permission of asylum and can I build a new life in Germany? Where am I going to spend the night, under a bridge or even at a park? It may be the feeling when the harsh reality strikes back after a boozy night or even the state of uncertainty in a so called lucid dream, when the borders of dream and reality seem to blur.
We also take a look at an extraordinary flat share, that resides in a castle instead of a normal flat. Oh, and did you know there are so-called backyard mosques in many big cities in Germany? Yes, No, Maybe?

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

As a group of students, our main goal is the design of a print product, which is going to get acknowledged by experts both nationally and internationally. An interdisciplinary approach is essential for us – an reflecting, analyzing and experimental way of working is helping us to reach our goal. By designing this project from start to finish we have the opportunity to gain a great amount of experience. Working on texts, researching, editing pictures, layout and typography, prepare the print und supervise it. We also have to organize the financing, distribution, running our own website and of course plan the big party celebrating the release!

Why would you support this project?

With your support, a student project is realized, which is a valuable component in our design education, and it will open up our way in working life. By editorial collaborations, interviews and selected projects contacts be targeted, which go far beyond the boundaries of the study – these relationships are extremely valuable.
Furthermore the magazine reaches a design-oriented public and a wide professional audience.

The studies of our department are represented in their diversity and future students are addressed. This raises reputation, attractiveness and therefore the level of our education.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

With a successful financing you are supporting the »nicht jetzt!« in terms of our production costs: the special manufacturing process of the Japanese binding is a major matter of expense, which is essential for our concept.
