NO MAN
An experimental documentary insight into the true person behind the man
NO MAN is a bachelor project that sets out to explore the relationship between Evangelia Kakoulaki, a young Greek woman, and her male role models in a candid and introspective way. It questions the role of men in a perceptive and objective manner. The film takes a critical look at the patriarchal patterns of men in the Cretan village of Petrokefali and their impact on well-being. For the first time, the film deals with the inner lives of men and gives them a safe space to do so.

What is this project all about?
Filming of the NO MAN production is scheduled for October this year. The two-week shoot will take place on the Greek island of Crete, in the vicinity of the unassuming village of Petrokefali. The film will portray three male protagonists of simple origin: Kostantinos (13), Frangiskos (45) and Giorgios (46). We are going to capture an authentic and pure representation of the men in their true form.
To achieve this, we will accompany the protagonists on film during work, with friends, hobbies and in their close family circle. In addition, we will conduct intensive and reflective interviews. This will hopefully allow us to explore the inner lives of the people in a natural way in a safe space. My team and I will take on a completely non-judgemental and observational role, which is also reflected in the film.
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
The aim of the film is not to enlighten the protagonists.
The portrayal of the men portrayed in a bad light or as victims is to be excluded by repeatedly reflecting on the shots and their effect during the creative process.
The intention is to support the idea of a value-free world in which men can develop personally without judgement from birth. People who are read as male should be able to stand up for their individual development and stand up for it.

The stereotypical image of men and its impact on the well-being of those perceived as male is a topic that requires further investigation and greater visibility. With my film NO MAN, I aim to raise awareness, facilitate discourse and effect change.

Who are the people behind the project?
I am proud to say that NO MAN is a project very close to my heart, and I have already invested a great deal of passion and effort into it. It is therefore crucial for me to work with a team whose work, company philosophy and social and societal attitude I fully support.
I am grateful for the established and experienced production company Hillton, which has always supported me and stands behind my project. I am also grateful for the support of my cameraman, Gabriel Koller.
Furthermore, I would like to thank my family on Crete, without whom this project would not be possible.
