Crowdfunding since 2010

The "Hin und weg" motorcycle travel book goes international

17,000 miles - 36 US States - 181 days - 1 woman - 1 book. | In 2017, I travelled the US - alone and low budget. This motorcycle trip was not only a dream come true - it has changed my life. The people I met touched my heart. I want to give something back, I want to say THANK YOU. | "Once upon a bike" was first published in German in 2020. It's high time it found its way to the English speaking world. With the wonderful translator I've found, it could do so - buy your copy and make it happen!

What is this project all about?

This project is about ...

  • ... getting the German book Hin und weg - als Motorrad-Vagabundin durch die USA* translated into English
  • ... having the 1st edition of Once Upon a Bike - Roaming the Land of Dreams printed
  • ... sending the book to all who supported it
  • ... making the book available on amazon et al.
  • ... inspiring many more people (even Americans ;-)) to explore this wonderful country

The paperback book Once upon a bike will have about 300 pages and more than 60 color pics.
But why would you want to read a book a German woman has written about her trip through the US? Here's why:

"Eva pulls no punches in the telling of her adventure. Her insightful commentary on our culture and politics causes me to beam with pride as she discovers the best that America has to offer, and alternately cringe when she exposes some of the more embarrassing aspects of our society.

Through this book we come to know quite a lot about Eva: her passions, her frailties, and her enthusiasm for exploring places unknown.
But in the process, we also learn quite a bit about ourselves. And of course, that is what makes this book exceptional." (for more, see below)

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

The project goal is to translate the travel book and make it available to English-speaking readers and travellers.

To reach this goal, we need to raise 6.700 EUR / 7,600 USD / 5.600 GBP.

If you love reading and/ or travelling and/ reading about travelling, then be part of this campaign and get your copy of the 1st edition of Once upon a bike!

Why would you support this project?

I'll let Gavin from Virginia answer this question:

"I read Eva Strehler's book Hin und Weg in its original German version on the recommendation of a friend. I was hoping to improve my reading ability in the language and perhaps expand my vocabulary a bit. I did indeed accomplish that, but I got so much more.

Reading Eva's book about her experiences traveling across the U.S. by motorbike is like strapping on a helmet and tagging along with her as she and Josi (her bike) encounter the people and places that made the journey unique. We get to experience America through her eyes as she navigates the challenges of traveling alone and on the cheap without a fixed schedule or firm itinerary. The fascinating people she meets along the way, due to her open and friendly nature, and the surprising ease with which they confide in her, give Eva a perspective on our country which few travelers from outside the U.S. ever get to see.

And Eva pulls no punches in the telling of her adventure.

And of course, that is what makes this book exceptional.

I absolutely loved reading Eva's story, and I wholeheartedly recommend Once upon a Bike, the English version of Eva's book, to readers in the U.S."

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

How does this thing work?

  • By choosing a reward, you only commit to giving the respective amount of money. Nothing will be withdrawn from your account at this point.
  • You will only be charged after the full funding level has been reached.
  • If we don't reach it, nothing happens - all your money stays with you.

If we reach 6.700 EUR / 7,600 USD / 5.600 GBP, the money will be spent on translating the book and printing the 1st edition.

Who are the people behind the project?

Well, I guess it's just me :-)

  • motorcycle travel author from Kiel, Germany
  • currently 46 years old
  • madly in love with my dog Polly - and with my wonderful Bernd, of course
  • more (in German or bad English, I'm afraid): https://eva-hin-und-weg.de/mehr/presse/

The crowdfunding project was not successful and can no longer be supported.

  • All orders and payments have been automatically cancelled and reversed.
