Synopsis
Jan, a photographer-to-be, persuades his girlfriend Nora to join him to an expedition into the so called “Valley of the Bosnian Pyramids“ where he would like to document the excavation of the allegedly oldest and largest pyramids of the world. Jan is excited about the unbelievable discovery and convinced of a paradigm shift in the history of mankind. What if our civilisation was not the first highly sophisticated technological culture on this planet? Through his investigations, he is hoping to make a name for himself at a photographic magazine and to expedite a new awareness among the public.
Nora, however, is sceptical about the venture. Her analytical sight of a psychologist-to-be jars with theories of extraordinary vibrations and energies in the vicinity of the pyramids. The oppositional perceptions of the situation plunge their relationship into a crisis. A battle of world views arises, and the constellation of the liaison constitutes an analogy to the relationship between science, alternative science and esotericism.
But then, Nora discovers a mysterious tunnel and has vivid visions, and that changes her sceptical attitude. Her sudden change of consciousness makes Jan somewhat nervous. His conviction is put to the test when Nora decides to fathom the mystery around the Valley of Pyramids.
The real setting
According to Dr. Semir Osmanagic, the discoverer of the pyramids, also known as the “Indiana Jones of Bosnia“, or simply “Dr. Sam“, the history of mankind effectively needs to be rewritten. While the Neanderthal men where still roaming through the European forests 30,000 years ago, an unknown civilisation is supposed to have built the largest pyramid of the world – in Europe, just about 40 kilometres from today’s Sarajevo.
A physicist gauges an electromagnetic signal emitted from the pyramid, indicating the possibility of an ancient technology. Could this be a sign of the energy phenomena that Nikola Tesla referred to? Anyhow, the excavations are now running with the help of volunteers, and thousands of years old tunnels are being explored.
The pyramid shaped hills are real, as is Dr. Sam. We will also accompany him to his guided tours to mysterious stone spheres and tunnel systems that, apparently, have not been entered for thousands of years. In a way, he is a representative of the so called “forbidden archaeology“ – forbidden, because it is purportedly outranking the established scientists and, therefore, being subdued by them. It is hard to say who is rightly accusing the others of being unscientific. The distrust is entirely mutual and leads to lenghty disputes.
As a professional film team with two actors and documentary characters, we want to produce a high quality cine film interlacing the real setting around the Valley of the Bosnian Pyramids with a story inspired by personal experiences at this fascinating venue.
The story shall offer adventurous entertaining and a well-balanced overview of the different opinions about the Bosnian mystery. Above all, we want to explore the factor human being when confronted with a new view of the world, or perhaps even with a paradigm shift.
The goal of this film is not to take sides with any of the assumptions. It shall rather make perceptible how humanity precedes all theories, science, and stances. Ascertaining the truth (epistemology) is a complex domain, in which the factor human being will always remain unpredictable. Therefore, we wish that the film will also inspire vivid discussions.
Hence, our target audience contains people who believe that our world still holds great secrets in store for us, such as the supporters of the so called forbidden archaelogy, or the connoisseurs of energy places.
Equally, the film is also meant for the critics of the theories around the Bosnian pyramids. For them, the journey of our two protagonists will offer interesting facts and theories that make them want to explore further. They will become acquainted with Nora’s overcritical and empirical view.
PIRAMIDA SUNCA is the first scenic feature film realised at this location full of suspense. The constellation of the venue, the people, and the artistic approach is unique and promises an unseen cinematic adventure.
The subject of the Bosnian pyramids is very controversial and complex. We treat different perspectives and are looking forward to seeing the history of mankind actually being rewritten one day at the venue of our shooting. Should the archaeological ventures in the Valley of Pyramids turn out to be the biggest hoax in history – well, that would be interesting, too. In any case, the film reflects the thoughts and desires of the people put under the spell of the Bosnian pyramids. Without doubt, it is a thrilling adventure known only to very few, although it offers a lot to discover to a wide audience.
The low budget that we have at our disposition for our practical final year projects just about covers the travel to Visoko, as well as board and lodge of a film team of seven people including the actors. All members of the team are already working gratuitously in order to facilitate the project.
We still need additional team members such as supporting actors, production assistants, drone camera technicians, mask, helpers from Visoko and Sarajevo. The costs for costumes and petrol are also calculated to a minimum and need to be ramped up in order for us to be able to shoot at locations such as Zavidovici, Kravice, and others.
Should we overachieve our fundraising target, we could optionally add special effects to the film in the post-production that could capture the visions of the characters in breathtaking pictures.
My name is Damian Weber, and I have been studying film and arts at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne since 2011. As the director and author, I shall realise my graduation film with a number of other professional film makers and artists (see below).
All my films, videos and space installations deal with the emotional realisation of realities, perspectives, views of the world, and with the friction or mediation between contrary positions.
During my studies, I have pored over various artistic forms of expression with great interest, and now I would like to merge the energies from the realms of film and arts to an artistically ambitious, but nonetheless entertaining graduation film.
I am proud to be able to count on the support of the following talented film professionals, musicians, artists, and scientists:
Actor: Jonas Baeck
Actress: Katrin Mattila
Documentary characters: i.a. Dr. Semir Osmanagic
The cinematographer Mahmoud Belakhel will create breathtaking pictures and perspectives using state-of-the-art equipment of digital cinematography.
