Long story short, we want to educate as many people as possible about the complexity of the plastic crisis and how it negatively affects us as humans very directly. Because although “plastic” received more public attention over the last few years, it is mainly framed as an environmental problem. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Plastic is so deeply embedded in our lifestyles and our economy that we keep producing more and more, adding to the already gigantic plastic mountain of 9.6. billion metric tons (that’s the weight of 2 billion elephants!). And while we don’t (know how to) recycle it properly, plastic harms our health and makes global inequalities even worse. Fundamentally, the plastic crisis is a human crisis and we need to act now if we want to have a chance to solve it.
That is why in mid-July, our team will embark on a 6-week activist journey through the Alps, from Munich to Venice. Wearing costumes we made from plastic waste, we will literally carry the weight of the plastic crisis on our shoulders, as we host virtual and in-person events along the route to draw attention to the dimensions of the crisis – and its potential solutions.
We want to educate as many people as possible and take them with us on our journey. So we will film our hiking adventure and produce a short documentary which will be presented to a broader audience on streaming platforms and at film festivals.
Our project goal is to:
As we interview circular economy actors and grassroot organizations, we will inform about and reflect on five key topics of the plastic crisis:
Move mountains to solve the plastic crisis together with us!
