What is this project all about?

“Postcards for Peace” is a charity project to support people who suffer from the consequences of the latest war in Artsakh (Armenian for Nagorno-Karabakh) and border regions of Armenia. Together with artists from Armenia, we have developed postcards with photo motifs from Artsakh, which we are giving away in exchange for donations. The postcards can be ordered individually or in a set of 5 or 10. Free donations are also very welcome.

With every postcard we give people affected hope for a future after the war. Our donations will be transferred to OneArmenia, an Armenian NGO which convinced us with its transparency. The organization is currently supporting 50 women and their families who have been displaced from Artsakh and are currently in Goris, Armenia. They are provided with accommodation, food, and hygiene items, as well as further professional qualifications and training.

The photographs for the postcards were made before the war and depict the peaceful everyday life in the Republic of Artsakh. The photographers are four courageous women who documented life in Armenia and Artsakh both before and during the war. In doing so, they managed to convey the fragile mood of Artsakh: Despite the joy of playing children and the tranquility of magnificent landscapes, one can feel in these pictures the barely tangible tension of a constantly threatening war.

The postcards will be sent to our supporters via post. If you live in Göttingen pick-up on site is possible. The printed postcards will be available from January.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

“Postcards for Peace” has two important goals. Firstly, we aim to collect donations of 10,000 euros to support people in and from Artsakh - especially refugees and displaced people. To achieve this goal, we work with OneArmenia.

Secondly, with these postcards we would like to enable a “journey” to Artsakh in times before the last war to make the country, its people and nature visible in a way as we will never experience it again.

Why would you support this project?

Support “Postcards for Peace” to give hope to people in Artsakh and to make them feel that they are not alone. Since the beginning of the war in September 2020, they have been fighting for their survival. Thousands of young soldiers have returned home mentally and physically impaired. Over 100,000 civilians have lost their homes, loved ones and future prospects. Their houses, cultural centers and churches were bombed, their forests and other natural resources were destroyed. They are looking for help, a ray of light, a feeling that the world has not forgotten them.

Artsakh seems very far away from us, although geographically it is not far from the European border and the conflict directly affects European values and human rights. In the midst of current world events - an unprecedented pandemic, a crucial election in the United States, and a tight economic climate - there was little room for the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh. But we believe in the strength of the individual and our common ability to unite for the good. “Postcards for Peace” creates a platform for that.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

Donations collected in this campaign will be transferred to OneArmenia for projects supporting displaced people and refugees from Artsakh. The organization is currently helping 50 women and their families who have been displaced from Artsakh and are currently in Goris, Armenia. They are provided with accommodation, food and hygiene articles as well as professional training courses.

50 cents of every donation goes to the authors of the photo motifs to support their work.
