The grand post-production crowdfunding to complete our documentary FAMILIAR PLACES!
62 hours of footage from 3 years of shooting in Accra, Berlin and Düsseldorf: full of moments from the life of protagonist Akosua and director Mala. Family, community and elective kinship, queerness, polyamory and desire for children - Our self-financed documentary is in the rough cut and should now get the finishing touches with music, color correction, animation, and so on. For this we start the big post-production crowdfunding with you!

What is this project all about?
Music, sound, editing, color correction and animation of our documentary film are to be realized.
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
Post-production is what gives the film its very own character and therefore plays a major role in terms of the film's subsequent success. Success, that means for us: The story reaches many people! People who identify with Mala, Akosua, Nana, Isaac, Kofi Aidoo, Vivienne or Va-Bene, people who feel multiple belonging, and also people who have had little contact with polyamory, queerness, being post-migrant or Black in a predominantly white society.
Why would you support this project?
In a world full of conflicts, we need this film, which shows the diversity of different life models, in order to come closer to each other. Because in the end, the same questions move us: Where is my home? Who is with me in my life? We want to break down barriers and appreciate the normality of difference. We start this mission now! Be part of it!
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
With 9000 Euros the work on color correction, music composition and sound design, animation, title design and graphics, subtitling in German and English, DCP creation, film posters, submission fees at film festivals and DVDs can be realized. Thus FAMILIAR PLACES can celebrate its premiere in the year 2024.

Why does this project contribute to this goal?
Since the beginning of the project, we have focused on marginalized perspectives. To do this, we deliberately draw on specific competencies of the crew and protagonists that go beyond their area of expertise and advocate for horizontal hierarchies. For us, gender equity in film begins with the selection of queer professionals. Collective structures allow the director, for example, to work with a newborn child in an industry that is usually not family-friendly.
